I'm learning how to play this song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYL_aMdKTQo

It forces you to do a 5 fret stretch while barring the second fret completely. I'm noticing that I can only truly bar the notes on the top strings, the other 4 are basically muted. This is very frustrating, as it is also painful.

Does anyone have any tips on how to make this work? I've been trying to roll my finger on its side a bit, but I just can't get it. I have long fingers, so it shouldn't be a problem but this is causing me much frustration.

The tab can be found at this link if anyone is interested:

I was really excited to just get my copy of Ableton Live in the mail. I'm using my podxt as the audio input but am having a problem with latency. It is about a 20 millisecond latency that is making it _very_ difficult to monitor to a backing track. Has anyone had any experience with solving latency issues whether in Live or not? I'd appreciate it.

Some background:
I have a iMac 4 gigs RAM, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
My pod drivers are up to date
I'm using the latest version of Ableton Live

I'm pretty bummed out. Until I can fix this, my rig is basically useless.

I am going to be buying a firewire audio interface in the next month that I will probably plug the pod into, and hopefully that will fix the problem. In the meantime, I'd really like to find a solution to this, as I'd assume this is a common setup (with the pod).

Thanks in advance!

Got a great deal on this new Gibson Les Paul 2008 Standard in Desert Burst. It was mislabeled at guitar center, so I ended up getting $400 off smile.gif

I'm pretty excited about this. I've only owned fender guitars. It's a totally different vibe. I wasn't so sure about the asymmetrical neck, but I love it and it fits me nicely.

Hi All!

My name is Marshall, I'm 25 and from San Francisco, California. I've been playing guitar for a long time but I plateaued in high school and haven't progressed much since then. For the past 3 years I have been mainly playing acoustic fingerstyle guitar because it is both technical and challenging. The problem though is that I do not listen to that type of music in my day to day so I was very prone to burnouts fairly often. I don't jump in my car ready to listen to the soothing sounds of John Fahey, hehe. Basically, I want to ROCK.

I've made a decision to start playing metal and my first step was to purchase a metal axe. Attached is a photo of a guitar I received today: A Schecter Hellraiser C1 w/ Floyd Rose. I can't describe in words how excited I am right now to get home and plug it in (to my podxt and headphones hehe). Living in an apartment in SF means you cannot have an amplifier in the house.

I am putting myself on a one year plan, with GMC as the centerpiece. My focus is going to be on theory and technique and practice practice practice with a metronome metronome metronome. From initial browsing from a stylistic and skill perspective I am going to start on Lian's lessons. I will be recording my progress and I am excited to see where I am on November 18, 2009.

In terms of musical taste, I do listen to a lot of different genres but the unifying factor is that everything I listen to is genuinely good music by genuinely good musicians. From artists such as Sam Cooke, Roy Orbison and Stevie Wonder to Necrophagist, My Bloody Valentine and Shudder to Think, I can sincerely say that I love music of all types. My inspiration as a guitarist includes Muhammed Suicmez, Johnny Mar of the Smiths and Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac.

I am very happy to be apart of this community. After checking out multiple guitar sites on the internet, I can say that GMC unequivocally contains the most polite, mature and skilled guitarists on the internet. I look forward to my interactions with you all in the future.

The picture is crappy, but alas I am proud.

Hi All,

I just wanted to show off my new guitar: A Schecter Hellraiser C1 FR. This is the first guitar with a Floyd Rose I've ever owned, so I am sure I'll be asking questions in the future.

From the factory, it came with a pretty nice setup, however I'm sure it will need to be taken in once I figure out what configuration I'd like.

I'm thinking of keeping a tuning of a half step down. What string gauge would you guys recommend for this configuration? If I were to tune an entire step down, which gauge would be good for that as well?

I appreciate your comments and suggestions. ROCK ON!
