GMC Forum _ Introduce Yourself ! _ Hi From Gibraltar!

Posted by: Nicholas Sep 16 2007, 01:28 AM

Hi from Gibraltar!

I think I might be the first person from Gibraltar to join GMC!
(if any of you out there are Gibraltarians (Llanitos) give me a buzz!) laugh.gif

About me, well, I'm a total beginner but I have been struggling over the years picking up the guitar learning some chords over and over. Playing tabs that I found very difficult and overally very tedious. But sadly every bout of a few days with the guitar and I used to get bored and give up. unsure.gif
I've had very positive impressions of the way this website teaches playing the guitar. It's all very freeform in the way that you can learn your way, not step by step like from a book. And the idea of accompanying high quality videos with their respective tabs is genius.

All the best!

So you say you're from Gibraltar, as in the Rock of Gibraltar? Because it is beautiful there.

Yeah Gibraltar is a nice place. It's small, but it's full of history and uniqueness. You should come and visit! biggrin.gif

Interesting place. Have just been reading a book on the North African campaign in WWII, and Gibraltar of course played a major role as a center of operations. Hitler could not take it because the Spanish refused to grant him air space. Funny story (dark humor), some guy stationed there looked a lot like Winston Churchill and started making a joke out of that, wearing the Churchill type hat, and even carrying a big cigar. Unfortunately for him, he fooled the German spies to, they had a German squadron sent in to shoot down a plane he was flying in.

Hi Nicolas,
I now (since last year) live in inland Andalucia - Cadiz province and so am a near neighbour (about 1 1/2 hours drive form San Roc though dry.gif ). Must admit though that I avoid the coast if I can - not too fond of British gambas (if you know what I mean laugh.gif ).

Welcome to the site though - sure you'll have many happy hours here.

Cheers,
Tony

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, you guys are so pleasant and have made my decision to join this website worth my while. biggrin.gif
This one is for Juan Valero - Gibraltar is right next to Spain but this is a British colony not Spanish. But let me tell you, Juan... the only British I have in me is my education and Gibraltarian legislation. I have great Spanish friends and I enjoy passing the time in your country. wink.gif

Rokchik - yes, I am a huge fan of Jimmy Page, and ofcourse Led Zeppelin. Led Zep is a rock legend and to this day is a yardstick for many rock bands to follow, Led Zeppelin has been one of those rock bands that revolusionised rock during a time when rock was establishing itself worldwide.

fkalich - interesting info there on reading upon the piece of history you mentioned. I must say that Gibraltar is full of history of sieges, wars, conquests, of diverse cultures etc. You should come and visit, I'd be your proud tour guide! smile.gif

tonymiro - I know what you mean about the 'gambas'. I must say that Costa Del Sol has been exploited to such extent that it's all too commercialised. I prefer going on holiday to e.g. Chiclana (close to where you live). I've been to Cadiz on numerous occasions, it's a wonderful place and with its fair share of history.

Had a lovely day out in Chiclana back in August with my little girl Nicholas. Hopefully off with my wife, without daughter, for a short weekend to Cadiz later this month biggrin.gif

Ex pat 'gambas' in my village goes to feed the vultures - it's a major paraflying centre laugh.gif .

Cheers,
Tony

Paragliding is one activity I've always wanted to try, but the opportunity hasn't yet arisen. I imagine the courses/equipment to be quite expensive, isn't that true?
It would be quite an experience to soar amongst eagles and vultures (hopefully feeding the vultures rather than feeding off you!) blink.gif

Juan, don't worry I get funny comments like that all the time, we are used to it here! lol tongue.gif

My spoken Spanish is quite fluent although my written English is much better than Spanish.
Pero me apaño bien con el español, en Gibraltar parte del curriculo educativo es el Español.

Asta luego!
