I've been planning to do this collab for a long time and here it is now!
First a few introduction words:
All instructors are invited and would do me a great honor to have you all on this collaboration to show your own music style and skills.
Giving in respect that we have many great musicians that are teachers here at GMC it was a hard decision on what to put as backings. I have give it a lot of thought and it turned out to be trickier than seemed at first. The problem is to find a delicate balance between a universal backing track for everyone to be equal in a way and different arrangements for electric and acoustic guitars, voices, bass. In the end it all came down to 4 different backing track that instructors can choose from.
Bare in mind several things before you start. I'm sure most of us know these things but just for the record:
- The progression is a simple one intentionally to leave space for improvisation and players diversity - Cmajor key - VI V IV III an the tempo is 130bpm for all tracks.
- Backings are all loop-able, but you can make an intro to your solo guitar/bass/voice parts or anything that you may find interesting and consider being in your style of making music. You can notify me about your change and I will mix it up later properly.
- I will not change or EQ your recordings in any way so please do the mixing part yourself. I will only intervene with levels when doing final mix in order to preserve your original tone.
- The parts should be labeled as the next example: COLLAB_YOURNAME_WITH/WITHOUT BACKING
- If possible, upload a wave version of your soloed recording mono or stereo if you use stereo effects or double tracks.
- The 4 backings are final. There will be no changes on them. I could add one more, max 2 backings in some different style with a same progression if a number of at least 4 people ask for them.
Have fun!

one more thing, uploads should put here or ?
Cool! I'm glad you like it guys
@Nemanja
I don't really know, will have to wait for a confirmation from Kris or Andrew if this topic should be sepparated. I think uploads can be put here.
Great idea Ivan, I'm definitely going to do this collaboration!
Don't really know which backing I will choose though, because they all sound cool!
WOW, great collab !!!! at the end it has became in a reality
I will record my take for the heavy style.
This is awesome - I love the backings!
I'd love to dive into this one - however I will be away from my recording equipment the next weeks... What deadline should we have for this collab?
Oh, and can I bag a spot for the Pop Rock backing please? (I'll be the guy that makes the rest of you look REALLY good!)
Great job, I just downloaded the backings but so far I am also still undecided about which one I will use ;-) And as Kris already asked, please give us a deadline, I will also be rather busy with Blind Guardian during the next weeks but I definitely want to do my part in this :-)
Well could a month be enough?
month !! i think its enough Ivan
Definitely fine for me
A month would be good!
Ahh,I have main troubles to download backing.
I'm using Safari atm cause Mozilla is down and all I'm getting with clicking on
link is another window with QT player playing the backing...
Any ideas?
There's probably easy solution but I'm new with Safari.
Did you try to right click on the files and chose "save target as" or whatever this option is called? Like this the file should be saved on your hard disc and quicktime should not appear. About Safari, I also installed it shortly ago, but I never really used it so far, so I can't really give you any advice about this one, as far as I know though it also has a download manager, so it should also work somehow. If my connection woud be faster I would just send you the files, but unfortunately I am "crawling" through the net with about 6 kb/s in the moment...
I have options Download Linked File, and Download Linked File As.
But it both cases it only download PHP,not mp3 or what was the backing file type.
I managed it somehow, problem is that you have to download file
at the same location as in general settings(which is desktop atm),otherwise it wont recognize it.
????????? That's really weird, but at least you managed to download the files, this is what matters in the end
OK guys can we make a UPLOAD topic only and keep it clean there? Then as uploads arrive we can comment them here (for example: "Damn, that upload from _____ was great back there"
PS Sorry for a trivial example explanation...
It is not hijacking man, if there's any way I can help maybe? I can put backing on some file share server or something if you cannot download them it is not a problem.
can we equalize the backing tracks Ivan ?
I also decided to go for the pop rock version now :-) Is there any desired length that we should aim at or is this completely up to us? And just to make sure I got this right, you want us to upload our solos, WITHOUT the backing track playing in the back, right? Just our addition to the collaboration, you will do the final mix and turn everything into one big jam, right?
Muris - save the file on your computer and change the file extension to mp3 - "filename.mp3"- and it will work!
On month is excellent - I should be able to finish something! I just can't decide which backing to go for - they are all so cool...!
Ok - I think I have decided to go for the pop rock version - it's groovy and will allow for some swingy licks (I hope ) edit - what is the bpm of this one?
Ivan - what do you think about editing your first post so we easily can see which instructors are in? I really hope we can get more instructors to participate in this one!
I am off jamming now!
I'll try to record this collab this week, sorry for the delay, but I have some problems here and I need to resolve them... now things seems to be in the correct way
Kris was faster, I also wanted to ask about the bpm
Tempo is 130bpm
I will do mine tomorow night
If its not too late. Id like to take a turn on the pop/rock track. I'll try to record today or tomorrow
Of course, the collab is open for all instructors all the time!
I am in
Is it too late for me to sign up?
Of course not Walli - it would be an honor for me to have you on the collab
