How many packs of strings do you buy at one time ?

I usually get 3 because I'm a cheapskate ! To be fair, they do last me a long time.. biggrin.gif

Normally about 15. 10 pack of D"addarios to use on spare guitars or guitars I've set up for others, 3 pack of Elixir for the guitars I use to gig because I feel they keep their brightness better after sweating playing live and a couple of packs for acoustic. Normally they run out around the same time so It's easier to do it this way wink.gif The other guitarist in my band has had his stings on for about a year though huh.gif Now that's what I call a cheap skate, I've even offered to re-string his coz it annoys me his kept em on so long laugh.gif

I think that is too long on an Electric. I personally prefer "deadened" strings on an acoustic, though. I like how it accentuates the dark tone of a natural guitar.

On my electrics I tend to change strings once every 2 months.

I usually get 2 or 3 packs at a time and a few extra high E strings just in case, I actually broke a D string the other day , that was kind of wierd.

It's a cruel trick when you get used to a particular string breaking and then it's another one ! ohmy.gif

On my telecaster I am changing strings once a week so I am getting 10 pack every time and it lasts me for two months or so! I have 5 guitars so it gets expensive! The good thing is I am not using all of them mainly my tele so I don't have to change string that often!

I just got new strings yesterday biggrin.gif Two packs only, and I changed strings after a whopping 8 months laugh.gif

So, I got two sets, and now I have permission to change strings every month biggrin.gif

On a side note, what strings do you use ? The company, model, gauge, etc. and for what tuning.

I really loved the D'Addario EXL 140 Light Top Heavy Bottom. Kinda like perfect for me. biggrin.gif Heavy bottom gives a big sound on the power chords, and is good for Drop C, and the light top makes it good for lead playing smile.gif

But, I got EXL 116 Medium Top Heavy Bottom and EXL 110 Regular Light Gauge because mine was not abailable, and the EXL 116 is pretty good too smile.gif

I use Ernie Ball regular slinky, wich are 10s. Ive tried some of ernie balls other gauges like the power slinky and hybrid slinky but I really prefer the the regular. I dont think Ive ever put another make of strings on my guitar!
I dont really know much about different tunings so I just use standard tuning, with the occasional venture into a dropped D.

I know some guys with endorsements from smaller string companies.... you never know, they could have something you like!! If you did a search of smaller string companies, and sent a press pack (etc.) saying that you are looking for a string endorsement and you would like to sample a set of strings, I bet you might at very least get a bunch of free strings.

I'll buy three packs at a time but I'm going through them too quick lately. I've been sticking with the Fender Bullets 9-42 mostly. I used just Slinky's for years... still use them sometimes.

I get 10 - a box. I use them sparingly because I too am a cheap-skate! I normally only put on new strings when A. They fall off, or B. I have a show/recording the next day. I rarely put them on "day of" because I like to let them settle a little.

cheerios!
