I stumbled upon a great song today and I was wondering - Do you guys know what 'modulation' means?

Well, it basically deals with key changes in a song and I was curious to know if you spotted such key changes in famous songs and of course - which one is your favorite?

One of the most famous examples would also be in Livin' on a Prayer by Bon jovi - where the chorus suddenly shifts to a higher key and they can barely sing the notes !! laugh.gif

Great topic Cosmin!! I love when songs modulate a tone or a third in the last chorus to make it more emotive.

This is one cool example:

Great choice Ben - as cheesy as it is - it's a great example! laugh.gif

Almost forgot - stick around for the v-chat session tonight for some modulation fun - lesson notes coming up in a few hours for the curious dudes that can't wait to read about how to take your chorus to heavenly heights biggrin.gif

Hope I don't get any hate for this one, but it's a fantastic example. tongue.gif

The chorus is where the key change happens. Very dramatic but also very effective! And they do a good job of not making it the traditional, super-chessy "up a whole step" key change.

Dave Edmunds/Elvis Costello (and Nick Lowe) are practically unmatched in the craft. XLNT choice!
