It uses MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) correct me peeps if im wrong but say if you press a key on the keyboard it send a CC message (Continuous Controllers) to whatever device i.e. VST's and plays each note according to your hardware controller (keyboard).

Basically its a hardware controller.

So i can play on it like a regular keyboard and record with it using VST s

Yep, hooked up with a computer with some good VST's its a very powerful device. MIDI is a very universal platform.

Then i will definently get one....

Got any recomendations(Not to high price)

I just want to point out Superize that you can get a dedicated MIDI keyb (only controlls MIDI hw/sw) or you can get a real keyb (has it's own sound banks AND does MIDI). One may be more preferable depending on your situation.

That one is pretty fine for basic recording,
there's also programmable joystick
so you can assign it for pitch bend etc.
Nice price too!
Some people use even smaller keyboards with 1 or 2 octaves,
they record chords or whatever and do transposing later on in DAW.

Depends of what you mean by recording,
if you think of just MIDI recording then it's ok
since the one you looked at has no sounds, it only sends MIDI signal
so you would have to trigger sounds from somewhere else, VSTs etc.

M-Audio Axiom 49. Is the one I have. It was around $200.00 U.S. and It worked perfect with my macbook pro and Logic 8. All I did was plug it in and it worked great. Tons of features for the money.

It is very useful to have Midi Keyboard around. I strongly recommend you learn some Piano if you plan to do more things with keyboard, like different rhythm parts and things like that. I recommend getting at least two octave midi keyboard.
You can also get MIDI PICKUP for your guitar and do the same thing as you would do with midi keyboard, but thats another story smile.gif

Isnt that keyboard aimed for more adavanced piano, dance, hip hop kinda stuff?

What do you mean? you can just transpose it in the vst's or in the daw... the keyboard is just the controller

but what if you, perhaps, wanted to span 2 octaves in the same recording?

btw, I was thinking about getting an electric piano, but after reading this, I'm really thinking about a MIDI keyboard

I mean if you are good at playing piano you will be likely to use 2 octaves at least when doing rhythm parts and voicings.

4 octaves are optimal for a limited space home studio, and people who are not piano players. All these controllers have transpose button so you can have the entire range available at the flick of a switch.

If keyboard has octaves buttons then you can transpose on keyboard itself,
find perfect octave and then record.
If it doesn't have then you can transpose in DAW after you record. smile.gif

Then M-Audio Axiom 49 indeed,
it's kind of a top seller everywhere and price is approx 200-250$, depends of a store.
