Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Post Rock by Gabriel Leopardi

My version of GMC Post Rock lesson by Gabriel Leopardi. I tried to mix it up by utilizing different guitars and changing up the tone. I am still learning and loving every minute. I always add a little bit of me when I am playing. My fingering will be slightly different, along with my picking. I also used a different version of the power chords at the end when playing the bass notes. Thank You Gabe for the lesson.

Hi Ken, I imagine this was a really enjoyable lesson to work on, am I right? The slow build up, etc, makes you feel like part of the music.

Playing wise, this looks and sounds pretty solid. Your pick attack at the moment is quite soft but you can be forgiven that, as you're being meticulous and accurate. With time, you'll get a bit more positive with your picking and can inject a bit more attack into it. It doesn't have to be aggressive, just more assertive.

When you move from position to position during the main lead section, you can hear that your finger moves to the new note just a fraction before you pick it. Sometimes a player does this deliberately for effect but other times it sounds like it's not quite coordinated. In this piece, I'd go for making the finger and pick land at the same time smile.gif

Your guitar takes are mixed way too low in comparison with the backing, though... don't be shy - whack yourself up!

Hey! It's great to find this lesson here!

The main goal of this lesson is to get into this type of composition and arranging based on creating layers and textures. By playing this stuff you feel how the different guitars connect together and build the whole thing. I strongly recommend you to analyze a bit what's playing each guitar in order to get the most of this one.

Regarding technique and mix, I think that Ben shared interesting tips to have in mind for the next take. There is nothing to add about it.

Keep on the good job!

Hey there! smile.gif

This is a great piece of music (great job Gab!) so I'm not surprised you enjoy it - I do as well. Same as Ben, my main observation here is the picking strength. Picking strength is a tricky thing - it affects the tone, it affects the gain and it affects the comfort of playing. The harder picking is, the harder is to keep it consistent and even (timing wise). Sometimes soft picking is a way to go for because of the tone. I think in this particular lesson you could increase your picking strength. The tone would stay nice and warm but you would be able to easy notice some picking problems and would force you to search for solution. Also...stronger picking makes better ration between amps/fx ground noise and a guitar signal level smile.gif

As for the mix...I would go for a little louder guitar level in the mix, but this is of course subjective.

From any other side I have nothing to complain smile.gif Well done
