You need your timing. You are hitting notes pretty well, but without timing you just have a bunch of notes. Timing is where songs become fun to play and more so to hear. I rarely ever play or even practice with out a timing source. Before GMC my timing was mostly drum tracks, but the drum tracks are a little more forgiving than a metronome. Get your timing off with a metronome and people that have never played know you are off. What songs or riffs do you practice on a regular bases? You need to be able to sit down and play several measure of music over and over doing the exact same thing every time. If you don't, you are not training your hands and your mind to work as one. Just keep working hard and you will see lots of changes. I agree - without timing and a sense of what the backing chords are, it becomes just a sequence of notes without context. I bet you have a backing track in your head - why don't you try and record that first, even if it is just you playing chords in the background, then we will be able to get a sense of how the solo fits together, and understand the development of your musical ideas. Keep trying! -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

because in my mind everything is going 99 miles an hour Than you should slow down to 20 miles per hour and play slowly the thing you think you can play 99 mph!! Also - if you don't play with metronome - how can you be sure that you play it perfectly?? -------------------- "It isn't how many years you have been playing, it's how many hours." -- Prashant Aswani "PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!" -- Michael Angelo Batio Check out my video lessons and instructor board! |
