I'm pretty new on recording:

File:
http://rapidshare.com/files/54509565/Whirl.mp3.html

Just recorded it, barely any mixing yet.
I play guitar, and did bass, drums & keys on midi.

Guitar: Ibanez RG with Dimarzios, NI Guitar Gear 2
Drums: Addictive drums with some modifications on my part.
KB: Linplug organ3
Bass: Edirol super quartet

Would love to hear your opinions on the song and some mixing suggestions.

Thanks in advance!!!

First off, I think it actually sounds very nice. Everything seemed to sit pretty decently in the mix to me. From a compositional standpoint, while it's not my normal genre I thought it was very catchy and I rather enjoyed listening to it. A bit mellow, a bit upbeat - very nice feel in my opinion.

From a production standpoint I don't think I have near the ear of some of the others here. I would say the high end could be tamed a bit, as there were some parts it was kind of piercing and the cymbal sizzle is really pronounced on some of the crashes.

From a technical perspective, there were only a couple points that really jumped out at me ( like the slow slides around 0:38 / 2:43, some bends around 1:42 and the licks from there untill 1:59 ) as a bit akward.

Again, very nice job. It's a nice little song and overall I think the production came out nicely. If you really didn't have to do much for mixing, then I would say you have your setup nice. Thanks for sharing!

Pretty much echo Exorcyze. To me the upper mid and high frequency range is a bit congested/busy so I'd reduce the cymble sizzle as well or even take some of them out or apply a gate where they overlap with the lead guitar. With the synth - sounds like quite a nice pad but a bit back in the mix - maybe you could also put in some deep synth bass?

A couple of other things to maybe consider - the second lead guitar type (at 1:55) is a long way back in the mix - I think you want this effect but I think it needs bringing forward a bit. The outro fade out is a bit too pronounced/sharp to me.

Nice track overall though. I liked it.

Cheers,
Tony

Thanks guys,

Actually there's hardly any mixing done on it yet, and I plan to add real drummers and bass at some time (when I find the right guys), so eventually the ryhtmic section will sound more professional.

Also since i recorded it, I managed to improve my guitar recordings a lot with some new tricks, like using cabinet impulses and bypassing Guitar Rig's more 'plastic' cabinets, using some analog emus on the mix etc, and also replacing Guitar rig's reverb with a more professional one on the mix.
