This is an early mix of the first half of a song I am working on. Usually, I know exactly where and what do with the mix regarding the guitar, but in this case, I wasn't aiming for the normal 7 string low tuned tone like usual. Although I am recording with the 7 string, I am not using the low B. The guitar is a full step down (DGCFAD) and the amp model this time around is a 1969 Marshall, which is the polar opposite of what I was using. (2006 Mesa Boogie modeler) - I went for a dry tone with some very basic touches to it, and relied on the quadtracking to give it spice and beef. Its still a Metal song, but not my normal Prog/ Death style. Also, the drum kit is redone to sound more organic, especially the kick, snare I am still working but let me know what you guys think of it |

Yes, definitely more vintage sounding and open then your other mixes, I like the change
It's a bit of a polar opposite like you mentioned, now I think there is a too much mids everywhere, but low end is tight. Try adding a bit more low energy on the bass guitar and kick, just to fill up the mix. Cymbals are somehow placed in stereo and all over the stereo image which sounds a bit confusing. Try to place them more realistic and not so scattered. This post has been edited by Ivan Milenkovic: Oct 24 2011, 09:19 AM -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE
