Ello folks,
I've got a question about my compressor.
Check out https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=56845 thread if you want to prime yourself
OK when I get my compressor I was thinking of putting it straight after the guitar regardless of where it is going after.
What do you all reckon?
Thanks for your help
Yeah that should work best, adding a drive pedal before it would cause its attack/release time to be (probably) confusing.
There are a lot of stuff youcan test though, like instead of strong compression using minimum settings and maximum output would be a really nice booster...having a different vibe compared to your overdrive. Back in the day when I was a total metalhead, I would use the compressor of my processor to boost its distortion to crazy levels and it was really fun
A friend of mine after buying his first comp. prefers this to his overdrive's. Usually he sets the amp clean, dirt coming from a boss ds1 and boost the ds1 (or any other dist. pedal) with that compressor. Expect to make a lot of experiments with knobs with your comp.-overdrive-amp chain
Thanks Mertay,
For starters I think I'll leave it straight after the guitar, and put the Twin City after the Hotbird, that way I can use both pedals whether I'm recording direct to PC via GT-001 or recording my amp via SM57 and/or the emulated outs. Once I understand the compressor, then I'll start experimenting.
Cheers buddy.
WHAT MERTAY SAID!
You can always experiment with other positions for different effects, but yeah, I'd say just after the noise gate (if you are using one, and or if you get one) You can use it as boost and to even out palm mutes etc. Very handy Not to mention it can make clean parts, especially tapped clean parts really sound awesome. Here is a vid with tosin showing how dramatically a compressor can impact your tone.
Interesting video Todd, thanks
