I mean come on - there are millions of topics to talk about - and you pick FUNERAL!

btw. GMC has nothing to do with this topic! So what did this have to mean: "GMC is quickly becoming a total bummer" ??
GMC is the best place in the internet! And it will stay like that! It is also the only really polite place - swear-free place!

I'm sure you are aware of the recent series of posts that resulted in rules and regulations. I don't think I need to rehash that at all. I stayed away from it simply because I didn't want to get dragged in. Btw, in case your wondering, I fall squarely on the side of free speech, Total free speech, nothing less. I'm under the opinion that if you don't like something, walk away. If you don't want your kids to get exposed to something, be a parent. I have three of my own. I know how hard it is to keep them shielded from the "big bad" world. But I would be the last to dictate how people should talk. Thats what I meant by the comment above.

If I might add just one more thing; Hypocrisy is really unbecoming. While little acronyms like wtf, and **** might not be as in your face as their fully expanded counterparts, everyone knows exactly what they mean. Peppering your posts with them is not striving for what you desire. Namely "really polite place - swear-free place".

Boris

Angry? Not at all! Amused perhaps, but definitely not angry. Theres a difference between letter of the law, and spirit of the law. I'm sure your following the rules to the letter. But if I hear you correctly, you strive for "polite and swear free GMC". That will require you to go further. Anyway, I'm sure we have wasted enough ink on this, I just want to make sure we don't deteriorate in to a police state. A little blood stirring every once in a while is good for the soul! I'm still curious about your death phobia though. If you wanna take it off line, I would like to listen smile.gif

Is there a song with the title, "Oh wait a minute, he's not dead yet"? That's the one for me.

Steve Vai - Whispering A Prayer

What can i say, i love that song smile.gif

And i want to die after fighting a mighty dragon of super epic power metal proportions. We engage in a 20 year long battle and after i slay the beast and save the world, i go back home, pick up my ibanez, and he comes back to life and i fight him with my ibanez, for like 10 hours, untll i pierce his skull with my headstock and his claws pierce me, i finally kill him but he also gets me...

Thats a mother ******* epic death right there! smile.gif

Hey, I like your style, both in musical terms and mode of death - mine would have been pretty similar in all respects, except I will add that I would be using incantations to fire thunderbolts and jets of fire out of my headstock before I finally delivered the killing blow thus sealing my own fate laugh.gif

First of all - i don't care about number of ********** in that word! You know what word it is! smile.gif

Second - you'll see your song preference will change until than, if not the whole style! A year ago i was sure Vai is my all time favorite! Now he is not any more!!

And third: 17-20 years old kids talking about death is totally stupid! I wonder what kind of thoughts drove to topic like this... i mean - funeral?? WTF??

You being from the Ukraine, and now Croatia, even as young as you are, i expect that recent generations have had it passed on to them, that death themes are not really fun and games, they saw too much of the real thing in the last century.

This is all video games to them.

You pose a good point here. Given Pavel's geographical location, death is probably not a very light topic (as it may seem to the common American or Western European). I agree with Pavel that most of the members here are too young to be thinking about death...and that musical tastes will change from now until death.

Idk what to think of this topic and I saw the arguments before and all I have to say is this, death is a sensitive topic depending on age level and what not. But the bottom line is it will happen. My dads friend recently went to the doctor and found out he had a cancer of some sort and was given a specifc date for when he was going to die, Imagine that and you all will cheerish your life and not think about this topic every again.

and come on, even if you make a bad choice, what are you gonna do, sit up and complain about it? that shows what a video game mentality is in action here.

i once had a discussion on this with my brother. my decision was the theme to the Flinstones. For those of you not familiar with that cartoon, i will give the words from memory....

"Flintstones, meet the Flintstones, they're the modern stone age family
from the town of Bedrock, they're a page right out of history.
maybe, one day fred will win the fight
and that cat will stay out for the night
when your with the Flintstones, have a yabba dadda doo time, a dabba doo time, you'll have
a gay old time!!!!!!"

here is a you tube clip of Red Dwarf, where Cat and Lister watching the Flinstones, lusting after Wilma.

Why did I create this topic? Because my friend told me that he recently went to his mates funeral, who died of cancer. But he knew it was coming, and he chose Bob Marley - Buffalo Soldier, to play at his funeral. And now when my friend listens to this song it reminds him of his mate.

This is also similar to that my great grandmothers passing, I remember her when I hear the song played at her funeral, a song that she loved.

All I did was ask myself what song I think I would choose. So I thought I would put it to you guys too. Not meant to offend anyone, also wasn't meant to attract silly comments about songs called swinging the dead and highway to hell. But it doesn't really matter does it, it is a just a discussion.

And unfortunately we are not allowed to swear so i'll just say: shut the ***** up about funeral!!

Jeez...seems like i missed alot of stuff that is going on here.

Well, about the argue thats going on here i just have to say that:

there is nothing wrong talking about death, (We all know it will come anytime, anywhere), thinking of a song that you'd like to be played at your funeral is NOT wishing death, unless you really wish death on purpose.

To Pavel: I understand your opinion and points of view, and i respect them. But i think you are overreacting about this, like i said, you're not wishing for your death by thinking of songs to be played at your Funeral. Funeral...definately not happy..but certain sometime.. The fear of death is inevitable.

And idk why you're swearing at is simply because we are doing this, this doesent mean we WANNA DIE. Im sure nobody here wants to die yet. But definately this being a great ambience were im sure MUSIC is the most important and main focus here, there is definately a song representing our death for most of us, im sure for all, but thats just my opinion. Just like theres a song for our birth, our first kiss, a goodbye, there IS a song for that represents our future death while we're living, at least for me.

I have expressed my ideas and points of views, and i want this to be clear: i dont mean to offend anyone AT ALL. Learning more and being less ignorant is a great thing to do (im not saying anyone here is ignorant), fear is not the answer. Remember: Knowing Is Power...And Understanding is Wisdom.

Ill repeat again: I dont intend to offend ANYONE, i respect each and everyone of you, i respect your opinions and points of views, and i hope you will respect mine.

Real lame ones I have. But it is a place for feelings and maybe a bit of crying.

We would start of with Stairway to heaven
Follow up with Shine On
Then a swedish blues song, Totta Näslund - Sex fot under.
The finish is Comfortably Numb.

Agreed!

I really don't think the topic starter had any bad intentions - but when a member from a different culture reacts strongly to the topic - I do think it calls for all little more respect.

Fortunately for me - I live in Sweden were we haven't seen any conflict or war for a long time. For most parts of the world this is not the case. Even though these countries might not be very well represented on our forum, I think we should show some respect!

Not really sure if it has anything to do with culture, age or "videogame mentality". Although I'm a Western European and only 29 years old, I've seen more senseless death up close than I'd care to in a lifetime. But in the end, talking about death, even making fun of it, is the closest thing to a "defense" people have. Censoring such speech will do no good. mellow.gif

Everyone draws their line a different place - mine is drawn where we start making fun of a tragic event - even then it depends on the context. I don't see a problem with this thread - actually I think it's a healthy discussion, whether people take it as fun or give it serious contemplation. But different people will have different lines, and I totally understand Pavel's point of view. I'll also have to agree with ch00ch00man, though - the moment we start filtering out threads like this, we're already moving in a very wrong direction.
