The Home He Never Had

Verse 1:
I lived next door.
He called me his neighbor.
Day in and Day out.
Cruel Labor.

I’d go over every once and awhile.
The biggest reward was
Seeing him smile.

It always amazed me…..
How a boy of his size,
Always managed to have fear in his eyes.

When 4:00 pm came around.
The daily war starts up again.
With me next door, his one and only friend.

Chorus:
A good spirit, tarnished by empty hearts.
Afraid to speak, as dad left his mark.
Mom screamed in the back, helpless and mild.
As dad beat the love out of his only child.

Verse 2:
Next day in school everyone asked about his marks.
He sat their quietly.
Showing no remark.

I did what any friend would do.
Acted like nothing happened.
But I knew.
Oh I knew.

Chorus:
A good spirit, tarnished by empty hearts.
Afraid to speak, as dad left his mark.
Mom screamed in the back, helpless and mild.
As dad beat the love out of his only child.

Verse 3: Dinner came around.
I was safe in my home.
What was happening next door?
I decided to leave alone.

Upstairs in his bedroom,
My friend was hiding for his life.
As dad walked , with his usual strife.

He could smell the hatred, from all the way upstairs.
As he sat there saying all his prayers.
“Please dear Jesus , help dad change his mind.
Maybe then he’d know.
I don’t like these fights.

The stairs screamed.
Dad was coming up.

“Dear God, Please
This is enough.”

Chorus:
A good spirit, tarnished by empty hearts.
Afraid to speak, as dad left his mark.
Mom screamed in the back, helpless and mild.
As dad beat the love out of his only child.

Verse 4: Dad stormed in, slammed against the door.
He ran to his sun, looking for some more.

Those helpless screams were heard for 1,000 miles.
As Dad proceeded to beating his child.
He slammed his head against the bedroom walls.
The fun was over as his kid began to fall.
A puddle of blood danced amongst the floor.

Dead. No more, No more.

Chorus:
A good spirit, tarnished by empty hearts.
Afraid to speak, as dad left his mark.
Mom screamed in the back, helpless and mild.
As dad beat the love out of his only child.

And so a life was ended.
Dad, sent to jail.
The ambulance drifted into the moonlight,
Another face left pale.

So I sit here on this carpet.
How Sad, How Sad.

Maybe up in heaven he’ll have the home he never had.

BEFORE WE GO ANY FURTHER- I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABUSED, NOR DO I KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN ABUSED.

Ok. Just wanted to make that clear. I was thinking about a child who was in a abused family, and what It would feel like for him . It was kind of inspired from the movie "Running Scared"
