Whammys can be useful, but most of the time i find them to just be an annoyance. I never use it at all.

But it's all individual. If you like to play, or plan to play stuff that involves a whammy, then offcourse go for one smile.gif

If I had only one guitar I would prefer it to be a hardtail. This allows you to do alternate tunings without a major hassle. If this is a second + guitar then the choice really comes down to what you plan to do with it. I like to have the option of picking up my Ibnanez with the Floyd Rose when I need it but I spend nearly 95% of my playing time on my Gibson LP hardtail.

For an alternate tuning you need to set the guitar up for it which takes 30min+ with a whammy guitar. Yes the whammy bars can be removed easily.

unless you get the tremol-no.
it allows you to easily lock your bridge so it's effectively a hardtail. you can unlock it just as easily.

I think the choice basically comes down to what you really need. Do you actually need the whammy bar? Do you want to learn some nice licks and use it in your playing? Then get the guitar with the whammy. If you don't like the whammy and don't plan to use it at all then just get a stoptail and that's about it.

I would have bought the one without..
But it is a matter of personal preference, if you need/use one it's good to have but if not there's not a point in having one smile.gif

The Horizon is a very nice guitar. I actually enjoyed playing this guitar and I'm not a huge ESP fan. I'd go for the one without whammy but that is me. It is a lot less hassle and ends up costing you less if you're a beginner. You can;t do alternate tunings so easily and if you wanting it set up then it costs more in shops. It isn't ideal. sad.gif

As the others said, it all depends on what you want, if you don't really need it I would definitely go for the one without the whammy. Setting the guitar to a different tuning can be a lot of work on a floyd rose system, and in my humble opinion whammy bars also don't really support the tone of a guitar, I would definitely never ever buy one with a whammy at least.

It depends what kind of player you are, and your style. If you like doing lots of tricks and you know all the crayze tones, you should probalby get it, but if you are not into that stuff then i say no, its just going to get in your way.

I have an ibanez sa with floating bridge and no locking system and the whammy bar is just a pain in the ass , is there any way to lock the bridge?
