I dont think there are any "shortcuts", if You wanna sound good it takes some time and a lot of effort, but listening to music when not playing is essential, memorizing patterns while doing the dishes maybe makes some sense...

Though isn't 20 minutes of quality practice better than 12 hours of just messing about? It's very hard to tell, no matter how hard you try to just mess around for 12 hours your brain would still do some work, with our without your intention. All I wanted to say is that you should spend as much time as possible with your instrument, sometimes it'd be random jamming, sometimes it's focused practicing etc, just stay connected to it. And there are surely no shotcuts as stuffy said but you should try to focus on few things when practicing if you wanna make the best out it: - full concentration - high level of self criticism so you could work on errors as you make them - play everything clean and accurate - match your practicing tasks with your skills if possible, wasting too much time on something that is far beyond your current limits is....waste of time - try not to look at the watch when you practice if you can, it seems distracting imo, perhaps set an alarm to stop. I probably said nothing new. -------------------- Youtube
