Had a good chance to compare them at a friend, he had a ts9dx and I brought my ts9.

First of all, I was curious cause I can't use my ts9 as a distortion booster. Both my guitars neck PU sound bridge-like specially on the E-A strings. I still keep it though as when inserted direct to soundcard, it gives a nice drive on its own (sort of how 808 users use their pedals).

The ts9dx is definitly a solution to my problem, I didn't even need to go past the "+" mode. The other modes are seriously loud and bassy, I can't imagine an amp this pedal can't drive. Some say when doubling powerchords for recording, the extra modes are very handy so with a turn of a swich you get a slightly different tone rather than reaching the amp...

What I disliked was the ts9 mode was noticably dark and a bit less organic feeling compared to my ts9. Side by side the ts9dx was no fun on that mode which is why I'm still keeping my ts9 for such a long time.

I get it now why pedals so similar are in the market from the same brand yet all have a customer. Picking which one can be as simple as a genre thing but from now on I'll recommend the ts9dx to the shredder/metalheads in this forum smile.gif

PS; I have my eyes on the wayhuge and t-rex overdrives, have no rush but want to see if they're more versatile in a way that I want.

If you like that, you may also dig the SD9M - 'Sonic Distortion, modified'.

More gain than a TS and with both a gain and mids boost switch.

I wouldn't classify it as a 'metal' pedal, especially not modern metal but definitely hard rock ala 80s and 90s. Also, a lot of the fusion guys favor SD9s (Scott Henderson, Mike Landau). *Maxon also still has an SD9 that they make in Japan if that matters to you (the Ibanez is Chinese).

Very interesting thread. I don't have too many experience with these pedals so it's cool to have more info about the slight differences between the models. Talking about overdrives, I'm now anxious waiting for mine: Check it HERE.

I really liked it on youtube (nice alternative to something like a ds1) when that one was introduced but never had a chance to demo it. The distributor brings some occasionally but they're sold immediatly here.

That or maybe a RAT would fit nicely between a green OD and my metal pedal but I want to focus on the current range of my tones first. With so many variations of the same pedal, its already complicated enough for me biggrin.gif

I'm watching that topic smile.gif

By the way as you work with joyo, their green OD also has many users despite the price there are who prefers it to the original.

Interesting!

The only tube screamer I have experience with is the TS-9.
