I have a question about Pavel's Galloping lesson, and since he's not here, I figured you might be the next best person to help me out with this.

my problem is that I have been practicing this for quite some time, and I have not encountered any problems until now..
The lesson says to use 100% alternate picking, and up until now I THOUGHT thats what I was doing
like this
GALLOPING RHYTHM
------0----0--0--0----0--0--0----0--0--0----0--0--0----0--0 <------Open Low E String
------U----D-U--D----U--D--U---D--U-D----U--D-U----D--U <-----Pick Stroke
This worked well for quite some time until I got up into the 100 BPM area, and I am starting to find myself on the wrong side of the string when I need to play the accented (unmuted) notes throughout the passage... now with my current picking technique I wind up on the right side of the string for some notes, but not so for others.
Basically I would like to ask how would YOU play this lesson, and what would your right hand be doing as far as upstroke/downstroke?

well, when Pavel said 100% alternate picking, I think he was wrong. because that it is not correct.
when you play gallop, better way yo play this technique is to start with downstroke and repeat one downstroke to start with the gallop.
something like this.
------0----0--0--0----0--0--0----0--0--0----0--0--0----0--0 <------Open Low E String
------D----D-U--D----D--U--D---D--U-D----D--U-D----D--U <-----Pick Stroke
I think this is the correct form to play a gallop. point is that you´ll get more attack on your playing.
even pavel played it in this way... so, I think he put attention on alternate picking in every part without gallop. and may he forgot explain tips for gallop.

If you look at the slow videos, Pavel's playing it like this:
D-DUD-DUD-DUD-DU
I think that what he means with 100% alternate picking is that you count the rests also. The rests would be upstrokes then.

Hey Lian,
All is going well practice wise, I just had a quick question
right now I'm using .010 through .046 (Light gauge) strings
Is it generally easier to play this kind of stuff on heavier strings...
its seems like it would, but I dont wanna go out and get strings, change them, and find out that It doesnt work.... ( I only have one guitar )
