GMC Forum _ Uploads _ Mix And Master Practice.

Hi

I have been studying mixing and mastering in Sonar the last few weeks, to get my recordings to sound a little better.

I used this Satriani cover I recorded few months ago to practice on, but there´s plenty going on in that song.

Superior Drummer 2 used for drums, Guitar Rig 4 for guitars and bass.

The new mix sounds ALOT better though it´s not perfect, but i´m getting closer. smile.gif

Here is the old mix:

 Forgotten_Part_II.mp3 ( 6.91MB ) : 287

And here is the new mix:

 Forgotten_Part_II__Master_.mp3 ( 11.48MB ) : 267

Enjoy. smile.gif

Performance and song sound good to me but I think you need to look at the mix again.

Some of this may be partly down to poor summing in the mp3 but even allowing for that you´re mix is clipped and distorting and so also sounds a little sharp and thin. So you need to lower the track levels either at recording and/or mixing. I´d also suggest that you watch the sub bass region and the mid around 4-800Hz.

Thanks for the comment.

I´ve used too much boost in the mastering.

I´m trying to use VRM (Virtual Refrence Monitoring) method to mix with headphones, but the interface emulates enviroment and many Studio monitors.

Wow great song man! I like the mix as well. It a bit too sharp/bright on my system. But overall sounds pretty professional smile.gif

Tony gave some great notes here so I don't have much to add other than well done on the performance and
post the tweaked mix when you can so we can all give it a listen wink.gif
