This makes me think that maybe all their products are copies. Is there any more info about this?

I haven't seen any further detail.

My guess is a direct copy of an algo made them loose but for other pedals its a very free world to "get inspired" by other designs. Even EHX makes such inspired pedals (which are pretty good sounding).

I suppose someone would know something if they all were copies. But it's true that Asian companies recently started making gear of relatively high quality for much lower prices.

Joyo's Bantamp series is of really good quality in its price range. They are quite boldly hinted to be copies of famous amps and in fact, the VIVO's circuit is probably an exact copy of 5150, because the specific noise is the same! I believe my Zombie is made after Mark IV or Dual Rectifier but it's a really good copy. No match vs a real Mesa, but for bedroom it's good enough.

Years ago, I bought an overdrive pedal that's an exact copy of Ibanez TS808, though it was not hinted anywhere. It had a one green element but that's not a reason for sueing. Iirc this series is no longer in production and prices went high, as people realized it's good. I disassembled it and the elements matched the 808 schematics, though differently placed on the PCB.

Asians are growing as a secondary market for guitar equipment and that may even force the Western companies to lower their prices to prevent going out of business. Some companies make products of good quality, other use the cheapest components and you buy their stuff only once but it's still an income. If you can tinker your way out of the faulty gear, that's possibly the best outcome. But Western companies aren't exactly of top quality. Tbh, I noticed some of them are slacking off and slowly lose their good name.

I'm not a purist and if it's good, I don't care if it's a copy. Honestly, what isn't a copy of something in XXI century? The question is: does the developer bring something new to it or just "Copy and Paste" the idea.

Yeah indeed, would be very interesting to know. All the Mooer products I have heard are really good (I even have the Radar pedal)

Sadly there is no way to stop this from happening. The judgement against them was under a million. For Mooer that's just the cost of doing business. They are not shy about grabbing anything they can grab and then reselling it under the mooer name. The entire idea of "copyright" is not entirely accepted in China as a whole. Grabbing other folks intellectual property reduces costs dramatically. It's the incentive. Mooer makes some great stuff at cheap prices. A lot of which, I'm guessing, is borrowed tech from reverse engineering. leaving the trademark in was pretty sloppy.

What's fascinating about this is that a Chinese court ruled "in favor" of a foreign entity and awarded them compensation. That's kind of a big deal.

If the legal industry in a country of 1.4 billion becomes something of a profit generator, regardless of the side they take in any particular case, can you imagine how much money there is to be made? For Chinese lawyers in particular but also all the kickbacks that would be doled out to officials, politicians and judges.

That also had my attention, since Mooers factory is there they wanted to shut down production. If it was in USA all they could have done was to stop selling them in USA.
