GMC Forum _ Gabriel Leopardi _ Hellriegel's Thread

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Jul 19 2012, 04:39 PM

Hi Hellriegel!! Welcome to your http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=43110&st=20 thread!!

Could you please tell me a bit about you, your musical tastes, influences, strengths and weaknesses? I would need some videos of you playing rhythm and solo guitar, so please post your best material here. If you have some music or ideas of your own, also post them here. Also let me know how you think that I can help you and what are your expectations for our job. You can check the other Army's thread to discover the different modalities of this project.

The principles of our Army are:

+ Improve your technique
+ Make music and solos
+ Have fun
+ Destroy the enemy (hahaha not realy just kidding... )

Thanks for my own thread smile.gif

To mention some bands that I like:
Blind Guardian, Manowar, Iron Maiden, Running Wild, Bullet for my Valentine, (old) Helloween, In Flames, Cradle of Filth, Children of Bodom, Dissection, Bon Jovi, Guns N Roses...

There are a lot of things that I have to work on. My rhythm play is not very precise, when I try to play along with Blind Guardian songs for example, that are quite fast. Several times I tried to learn sweepings but I always failed, looks like an impossible thing to me sad.gif Speed/Shreding is one thing that needs improvement too.

Lessons that I played the last time when I was signed here were the Inflames style by Lian and the Cradle of Filth style by Lian.

I hope you can help me with motivation and guidance to focus on things and not just play a little bit this and a little bit that. And i like to have someone that I can ask questions. I never had an actual teacher and when you are teaching yourself, sometimes question appear and it would be nice to have someone to ask.

And most of all I want to have fun smile.gif

I don't have any video material so far, but I try to record something in the weekend.

Hi mate! Thanks for this information. I would like to see you playing one of those lessons by Lian, and also any improvisation over a backing track where you show me your different soloing techniques.

Just today I recorded some stuff, but different things because I just saw your post now. And it took me a lot of time, because I'm not a big video editor. But I will try to record something that you requested this week. For now I recorded some rhythm and some solo play. I tried two different ways. In the rhythm part I recorded the sound just with the mic of the camera. The sound is aweful, I know. So I tried to record the solo stuff in Audacity and mix togetehr later with the video. But it took me hours to make this more or less synchronized. It was really hard and it's not perfect in sync. Well, let me know which way you prefer. And if you have any suggestion to improve the recording, I'd really be happy smile.gif

I hope you get an impression of my level with this videos. I will try to record more, but as I said, it takes a lot of time, not the recording itself, but editing, rednering, and so on.

I'm looking forward to your feedback
it's 3:10 am here now, and I go to bed now, finally smile.gif

I tried to record something that you can really see the problems of precise rhythm play that I was talking about

Hi man! thanks for the videos! The second one is definitely the way to go! It sounds and looks great! I can't note exactly how good you are on rhythm guitar because of the first video's sound, but it seems to be a very good level. Your soloing abilities are good, you have a nice tone, tight timing and a cool feeling. I can notice that you need some training to gain feel more comfortable with speed picking and faster playing in general.
Let's start this week with this exercises: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=42825

Also, it would be great if you record a rhythm lesson with the quality of the second take.

What do you think?

Hi Gab, sure, I will see what I can record this week. You have any advice to sync video and audio after the recording? I spent 10 minutes to record and more than 5 hours to sync video and audio and to render this video. Its kind of frustrating. I have to find a way to speed this up. My problems are with very fast palm muted rhythm play, like in most of Blind Guardian songs. I'll try to record something with the good sound.

And for my solo abilities I'd like to gain some skills in shred and sweep picking, but it looks like a far away secret to me^^

Is there a way to see the videos from the Video Chats? Or its just the PDFs to work on?

Thanks for younice feedback and the exercises

Hi mate, regarding the sync please tell me what software you are using for that. I personally use Sony Vegas, and it take less than 2 minutes to replace the camera audio by the better audio take.
Regarding shredding and sweep picking, the real secret is "PRACTICE". You have to use GMC lessons, and my intensive guitar course exercises, make a routine and practice every day the more than you can. You should start with legato exercises, Alternate Picking exercises and Sweep Picking. Check out our lessons archive and please post here what you find better for you, we will choose the material together.

I think that you can't check the previous Vchat session. I'll ask Bogdan about this and then I'll tell you.

Hi pal,

I goit some really bad news. Yesterday my pc just give in. So I can't record, actually I can't even play, but in the weekend I will try to make it work in the notebook that I can at least play. I'm using Line 6 Guitar Port to play and for the sound the software Gearbox of Line 6. I recorder the guitar in Audacity and then edited video and audio together in Magix Video Maker Delux 16.

I'm currently working on this lesson to show you my rhythm play
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Metal-Rhythm-Right-Hand-Workout/

I wanted to record it in the weekend but now I don't have a pc to edit the video. Next week on friday I go to Spain on vacations for two weeks. I really can't wait to sit with my wife and a friend and our accoustic guitars at the beach, watching the sunset, drinking cold beer and play and sing together biggrin.gif
If I have my pc back before I go, I try to record the lesson for you. After my vacations I'd like if you help me to choose lessons and excerises amd make a practise agenda for me that I can follow. I have some problems with, weill, you know laziness.... a kind of agenda, plan, would really help me, and some lessons that actually sound nice and are more fun to practise. I'm sure we can figure something out. This time I'm really motivated to come back to play and make progress and I will not let me bring down by a broken pc or anything else. This time and with a bit of your help I will win the fight against my laziness and the little devil on my shoulder wink.gif

If my wife doesn't need the notebook today in the evening, I will join yout VChat, but I don't know yet.

Have a nice weekend

Hi friend! I'm sorry about your pc! That rhythm lesson is really useful for practicing metal riffing and it will let me see exactly if there is something to fix in your rhythm playing. I will definitely help you with an useful routine as soon as you come back from the vacation. As iu said, having a practice agenda is something really important to make your guitar sessions very effective.

i hope to see you today at the Vchat! smile.gif
