Hey guys! It was just about time to start a good week with a nice collab!
This time, since our friend Christian, AKA Gitarrero, wanted to learn how to use his guitar in swaying the ladies, I have come up with the Modern Pop Collab ......
.....Just imagine, Lenny Kravitz, George Michael, John Mayer and Prince join forces in such a project! What would they sound like? I bet they would melt the hearts of every girl out there so, let's follow their example and try to be as smooth, sweetguitartalking and expressive as possible
Here are the specs:
Scales used: C minor/ C pentatonic/ C blues
Parts: Verse/ Chorus
Deadline: August 21st 2012
Format:
- one track containing your solo only (.mp3 or .wav) - one track containing both backing and solo (.mp3)
"Someone who has a very rare ability to say all the right things at the right time. Even when a situation is not in their favor, by the end of the night their uncanny ability with words has turned a unfavorable situation into an advantage. They are charming and possess all the people skills then some, they can talk their way out of or in into anything they want. Even more deadly if the person is hot. Basically they can sell a ketchup Popsicle to a woman wearing white gloves."
thanks buddy
edit :
oh and this one is even better
the Smooth Talker is a creature of lore.
according to legend, it is a man who can make women's clothes fall off using only mere speech. this alpha male is to be considered extremely dangerous and you should stay clear at all costs. however far away you are, keep your daughters farther. he is armed with extremely hypnotic verbiage. he is the Medusa of male sexuality.
you know you have encountered this fabled creature if you have been speaking to a man and suddenly you awake in a bed, backseat, alley, etc. with no clothes on and no memory. rumor has it that his victim's awaken still feeling his sexual power and pleasure. if you suspect a man of being a Smooth Talker, exit the area immediately and do not, under any circumstances, engage him in conversation.
now I need to learn that trick. Well let's go ontopic again...

Do I have to say I'm in?
Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Aug 6 2012, 09:33 PM
It was a plan since you said it

Hey Marc In the Romanian folklore, we have these male characters called 'zburatori' = flyers. They come at night and seduce young beautiful women.
Smooth talker is way too modern sounding somehow if you want to give this name to a mythical creature

When I first listened to the track I was like, no way. But I started noodling with it anyway and this one came together really fast. I can dig it!
YES YES YES! It's that EXACT Lenny Kravitz vibe! Great stuff man Love it and that autowah does the trick - I'm guessing right, it is an autowah?

Yes it is. I tried multiple wah setings but in the end I used the "Talking Filter" pedal in GarageBand.

Either way, it sounds very authentic

Man I'm having so much fun with this track, been jamming for an hour now! Trying to come up with some cool licks. I'm gonna try to just improv it this time and not focus on writing down a solo, I think that might be better!

Hey guys Here's the final mix I managed to make a little story out of it, having an EPIC start - YOU WILL NEVER EVER recognize the theme
Well, In order of appearance:
Gitarrero - smooth, deep down under, groovy rendition of the YOU KNOW WHICH theme A little bit more balance and perfection is yours mate
PosterBoy - nice smooth lines mate this sort of backing requires a bit of a rhythmic approach to it as well, so focus on pumping a little more groove in the leads next time.
Cosmin - Some notes in the fast lines were not as defined as I would've liked
Colobro - as I said when I first listened to your take - you got a nice groove to it and the tone and effect reminds me of Lenny Kravitz! Good going
John72 - I like the fact that you built your lines in a rhythmic way, but I would've loved a bit more punch
gregc1 - Nice leads mate and I also love the tone aaaand the fact that you undertook Gitarrero's famous approach somewhere in the middle
ElHombre - the tone and effects are interesting, but try to focus a bit more on the groove, mate
SaddleFall - your approach is dreamier somehow. I like it and it builds more groove towards the chorus part, where I also heard a beautiful note, which I particularly liked
Bleez - short but effective theme oriented line. Very good!
WeePee - You start closing up the whole song with your take - somehow your takes always end up in the epic endings Nice warm feeling to it and the verse ending is just great!
snackjacks- nice development of the verse guitar groove - you get to pull the courtains on this one!
Gentlemen! Congratulations once again! You have until next Monday to send your suggestions on the next one!
Thanks for the feedback Cosmin You recognized the theme??
How about a collab in the style of 90ies rockbands like Lit or Jimmy Eat World?
Posted by: Saddlefall Aug 27 2012, 08:42 PM
Epic collab, glad to be a part of it! What is this beautiful note you talked about? I must know so I can play it the next time too
How about a crazy phrygian jam for the next one? I'm talking spaced out, sci-fi crazy, something different and fun maybe?
Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Aug 28 2012, 10:54 AM
Both are good ideas! Saddlefall - there's a note which almost turns into a harmonic - almost at the ending of the chorus part, but it's smooth, very smooth
I'll see which one of the ideas would fit best for this month and of course, if more are to come, the more to choose from
So, until now we have:
- 90's College rock Collab - Sci-Fi Collab
