Hey,

the amp mentioned in the topic title is my current amp and it´s pretty okay for playing it at home, but I need another one for playing live. So I don´t want another combo, but until I have enough money to buy, what I´m looking for, I´ve got some questions:

Somehow my amp makes weird tones, while bending the first, second and third string. It´s something very, very spacy in the background of the note played. I don´t know how to describe it better. It´s kind of like a quite divebomb:D
But what the hell is that sound? It disturbs me pretty much sad.gif Can anyone help me?

So, for my new one. I like Tronds sound so much smile.gif I never thought about copying it, but it´s the direction I want to go in. So I´m thinking about a Marshall JMP-1 Preamp, but it´s pretty expensive with 969€ and I would need a box, too.

I would need some feedback for this preamp and maybe for a box that would match with the amp or any alternatives for a preamp, which might be a bit cheaper.

Thanks for any kind of help:)

Youre going for a tube amp sound and as you don't want another combo you also want it to be a tube halfstack at least. A Marshall halfstack will cost you at least 2000$ (head and cab) so that's not really an option. My advice is try the Peavy Valveking head with a decent cab, it's a cheap but good sounding tube halfstack.

Is that dfx for digital effects? That might explain the spacey sounds. Hear it in my Line 6 when bending. wink.gif

yes, it truly is. didn´t think about that point so far. but all effects are turned off! Do I have the weird sound though they are turned off?sad.gif

And Zakk, you play the Marshall AVT50x Combo: I heard lots of good thing about that one! Would it make sense to change that one against my current? Just for playing at home.

Do you get those weird noises on every guitar you use on that amp or just on one because what you explained sounds like a guitar issue (pickup height) to me.

The worst thing about the mg series is the fact that they aren't real marshall amps. Marshall had no solid state technology so they bought a little factory that produced ss marshall copies and put the original logo on them. That's why I would say yes, the avt 50x would improve your bedroom sound.

On the other hand the Avt50x is not a metal amp but more of a blues/hardrock amp and it suffers from a lack of low end like any other marshall combo. The other bad thing is that it gets really muddy when cranked to the max (when playing with a loud drummer) so it is not a good option if you need the amp for gigs/rehersals IMO.

Why didn´t anyone tell me that this amp is kind of fake before?sad.gif tongue.gif
If that´s true that would explain a lot.

I just tested it.

Les Paul Studio:

the noise is louder than on other guitars

Ibanez RG370:

the noise is still there but a bit mroe quite

Coxx dunno what, it sucks:

but no noise

So it has something to do with my pickups?

Most likely not If it happens on diffrent guitars (it gets louder the more output the guitar has, at least it looks like it).
Try a diffrent amp setting and if it still appears then it's definitely your amp that's somehow broken.

Possibly some effect is turned on by fault in the amp itself, there is that possibility. I don't know if you should try to get it fixed.

Zakk pretty much described AVT50x. I use it as well, for regular giggin as well, and it is OK if you can mic it and send it to a nice PA. If you can't do that, the amp is practically useless. It can be used for rehearsals no problem, I rehearsed regularly with it. Studio is a relatively small room usually, and there is no need to even crank it too much.

If you are planning to buy another amp for gigs in small clubs etc, I would suggest something that is light, has 2x12 cab and you will hardly fin a combo like this. head and sepparate 1x12 or 2 cabs with 1x12 is perfect so you can combine depending on the space. This means amp has to have switch 4Ohm on 2 speakers /8Ohm on 1 speaker, which heads usually have.

I don't know what your budget is, but the most versatile option is for sure JMP, but that requers a lot of cables, a poweramp section as well which is pricey also, and a nice power conditioner. This is also heavy as hell, so if you don't have a roady, it will pretty much be a big hassle for you every night after the gig to carry it home.

Now I would recommend hybrid amp for regular giggin, but it really depends how much money are you willing to give for the new amp... so how much were you planning to give?

The old one cost 450€. I want to improve my gear - so I would suggest 900-1000€, which makes 1400-1500$ imho.

Did I understand you right Ivan? You think that my amp is somehow broken, too, because there is no effect turned on at the amp!?
