Hi guys, haven't been ver active at all, just browse in now and then just to check out some great stuff.

The thing is I really have a passion for music and especially the guitar. A couple years ago I practiced hard but then I got some motivational killers and pretty much stopped the practice.

As it looks now I am because of the need of money playing poker for a living. This might sound glamorous, but it isn't that great when I know that my passion is the guitar and I would like to spend all those hours of playing poker playing guitar instead.

Everyday I feel like I am doing NOT what I am supposed to do but instead what I need to do you can say. What is my plan if I want to play guitar all day long and REALLY focus on improving through disciplined practice? (Poker tought me this one good)
Is it economically possible to practice guitar all day long? What are my options?

HELP!

Hi !

I think its possible to practice but maybe not all day long. People who practice all day long are full time teachers that other then that have gigs + video lessons (like here at GMC).
Your other option is to really become rich and just practice on your own , or marry a rich girl or something biggrin.gif

Good luck with poker, however much you control your game at the end it comes down to luck (people drawing on river perfect example of luck).

I wish you success with both and hope you will be able to do Guitar full time soon.

Thank for the great reponse!

Nice one about the poker, it's a long term game which means the skill is somewhat deceptive in short term but is easy to see long term. (This is what keeps bad players play)

Hm, I just gotta find a way to be rich I guess...

Economy is of course a very important thing in our lives and we always get a little bit stucked trying to decide between what we do right now and what we really want to do.

The thing I can suggest is to "slowly" move from one state another. I think playing guitar is very uncertain. You can be very rich with it but that's not for sure. On average it will give you plausible life, but there may be ups and downs. Since you are comparing with poker, probably poker is even more uncertain than guitar.

You don't need to practice guitar all day long to be a top guitarist. But whatever you do don't make such radical changes that you may find up yourself in a situation where you are just looking back and feeling regret (maybe because you ran out of money)

Just go slowly from your current situation towards your dream situaiton and every little thing is gonna be allright.

I did not decide to live from guitar (yet) but I am dedicating more and more time to it every day. wink.gif

24h per day is probably mission impossible,
however if you manage to play few days like that,
well,nothing wrong with that. biggrin.gif

5-6h per day will surely make you hell of a player, even with less hours per day,
it all depends of what are you practicing/learning and how in deep.

Poker is cool game, tho I'm not that lucky(and skilled) to play it,specially not for the money. laugh.gif

Hehe, correct indeed. 24h session is probably not very effective. Maybe the key is to be able to commit to more than one area in life, which I find hard. I always want to be as good as possible at what I do, but lack discipline...

Btw, keep it up Muris, I am VERY impressed with what you have accomplished in life. wink.gif

Well its definitly possible to play guitar "whole" day..Of course having pauses for lunch , rest etc...You will be able to accomplish very much on guitar with such a strong practice regime (you just need good practice plan though to be most efficient)...Than maybe you could join some cover bands/wedding bands and make money from it so you don't need to play poker for living.

Bogdan has a point, although I understand how poker can be great sometimes, it is usually very addictive and can lead you in some dangerous and unpleasant situations sometimes. With guitar, you don't really have those kinds of troubles, although it can be pretty uncertain business. Poker is as well, so..

Yes, I agree 100%. Guitar is much better for your inner soul vs the stress of poker.

I think its enogh to play about 3-6 hours a day to become a good guitarist.....

You say you play poker as a job then treat it as a job and play 8 hours and then you have a 8 hours spae time left to play guitar......

I have myself tried to play poker but i always end up failing because of lack of patience and concentration but i have managed to win a tourement on the internet......
