Posted by: Gitarrero Feb 3 2010, 03:20 PM

Though I'm afraid that I'm not skilled enough to master this classic, I will take part in this competition...after a few days of practice!

Posted by: Fran Feb 3 2010, 03:55 PM

Awesome initiative IntemperateControl smile.gif

Looking forward to listen to the takes!

Posted by: Crazy_Diamond Feb 3 2010, 05:05 PM

Is there a backin track provided or do we have to find one ouselves ???

Posted by: Gitarrero Feb 3 2010, 06:32 PM

I've found one, maybe it would be easier to judge if everybody had the same backing track...hopefully there is a better one than this:

Hmmm, Im sure there are some more backings out there.... Here is one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV52aSUEV6Q Anyhow, it seems that most of them are in shuffle versions. I will make one in straight beat and share it here in the following days...

Technically true, Staffay. But I would consider this Vox Wah pedal new - I bought new, not
used or second hand, but I did try it out a few times myself once I got it home. The guy
at Guitar Center also used it once to show me how well it works, but aside of that it's
never been touched and remains in pristine condition. Just for the record, and for the
sake of honesty I wanted to let every one know the facts. Like the shelf life of any guitar
or amp you may buy at a guitar store, chances are many people have picked it up and tried
it out before you ever got there - maybe not those $5,000 + Gibsons though - I think that's
why they put them up so high or behind the counter. I know I've spent hours checking out
and playing numerous guitars at Guitar Center. So anyway, comparative to most instruments
this thing is practically untouched. I wasn't made yesterday, but just as good I think. biggrin.gif

Edited date// PS. 18 days left to the contest deadline everybody (February 27, 2010). Winner takes all! Whooo!

Lastly, besides myself I have 2 other student/ GMCrs on the judgment panel and I'm looking for two
more GMCrs and 6 instructors to provide a versatility of judgment for this contest (11 judges total),
preferably but not necessarily to complete the contest - either way the contest will have a winner.
Anyway, the first to post their willingness to be a judge will be a judge here - until the panel is
full. BTW, judges can still take part in the competition but not judge or score on their own takes.
See thread one [page 1] for contest rules and photos of the Vox Wah pedal the winner will receive.

It would be great to hear your take Ivan! Will you be the first to submit a take? I assume
most rock guitarists have some version of this classic under their belt - it's sure to entertain
most audiences abroad at some point in the show. You rock, man! cool.gif

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Feb 10 2010, 12:37 AM

It was just a joke ofc! smile.gif Regardless, I will try to record something, but I don't want to be in competition, will do it for fun! I already have a wah pedal, so it would be fair if someone who hasn't got one to win it. smile.gif

Of course, fun and creative musicianship is the whole idea. Any one
who participates may win the contest - you can always give the prize
to some one you think should have it if you don't want or need it.
I hope every one who likes rock & roll and appreciates the classics
(students and instructors alike) will find time to share their own
interpretation of the music - no reason for any one to feel guilty
or ashamed of their ability or skill level here. It's about the
music. I'm certainly not getting any monetary gain out of this.
I'm doing this for the music, the prize is just for fun. smile.gif

Just thought it should be mentioned here too, Staffay just created a couple backings you guys can use for this contest, find them here:

Nice i might actually enter this now but only once i learn a few johnny b goode licks!

BTW is it true you can play whatever you like as long as its in the johnny b goode style?

Your version of Johnny B Goode may be in the style of, but at the same time should
be somewhat recognizable as another version of the same song - just not an exact copy
of the original. Improvisation is paramount, with all maintaining that Chuck Berry feel.
"Gotta be Rock-n-Roll music..." Feel free to improvise - nothing super strict here. smile.gif

nice competition...I want to see this

Posted by: intemperateControl Feb 19 2010, 02:24 AM

Nine days to crunch time on this competition, gentlemen (and ladies).
I know, I never want to be the first to submit a take in a competition,
because then every one else is out to get you with a better take! Ha!
But, this competition is open to everyone - students and instructors alike.
Where's the balls? basketballs that is. PG for everyone. I am especially
looking forward to your take Emir... Like you said, it should be funny.
Or, at least join the judges panel, because your participation - as well
as all of you other great instructors (and you know who you are) will be
appreciated by all. You are all well respected here, I'm sure of it.
Anyway, Hang loose, guys... smile.gif

count me in! recording my take tonight smile.gif, come on people! let's get some rock n roll done!

Posted by: Staffy Feb 23 2010, 07:11 PM

Thats the spirit, Adrian. smile.gif Im into putting the vid together!!

Posted by: Staffy Feb 24 2010, 11:48 PM

Unfortunaly I broke my video when trying to imitate a duck, so there will be no video for this one, maybe later though.
And I will strongly point out that I don't wanna be in the competetion, because of the fact that there is no "old-boy" class... (and btw. my lyrics are all wrong anyway, which can be seen below....)

//Staffay

Deep down in South of Sweden far from New Orleans
There was an old stupid bum with guitar dreams
His head was made of pure mud and wood
He goes by the name of Staffay B. Goode
He never ever learned to sing or play so well
But he could make the women just like a ringing a bell

Go go
Go Staffay go
Go
Go Staffay go
Go
Go Staffay go
Go
Go Staffay go
Go
Staffay B. Goode

He used to carry his bed in a potatoe sack
Go down and take a nap on the railroad track
Oh, the engineers would see him lying in the shade
Humping with the rhythm that the drivers made
People passing by they would stop and yell
Oh my that bald-headed guy does well

His mother told him "Someday you will be a man,
and stop to use the force by Your fast right hand
Many women will come to ya from miles around
To beg You use your mojo when the sun goes down
Maybe someday your name will be allover spread
Saying Staffay B. Goode is dead

That was great Staffy!

Posted by: intemperateControl Feb 28 2010, 05:46 PM

Staffay! Since I am one of 3 judges here I was waiting for the end to comment on
any takes. And now, I must say that yours was one of the best 3 takes I ever heard.

1. Being Chuck Berry himself (an oldie but a goody).
2. Being the Starlighters (aka. Back to The Future - Marty Mcfly lip-syncing/air guitar).
3. Being the great and generous Staffay himself (well worth the effort). Awesome, man!

Last on the list but not least by any means man - you made it sound cool again, Staffay!
It was like, your version was so "Goode" it made the other contestants seem obsolete,
non-existent, almost invisible. Ha! Wow! I must commend every one on submitting humbly
before the great and noble Staffay. For Rhythm and Blues - for Rock and Roll and where
it all began! all those guys I'm sure would appreciate this great contribution.......

I know you said you didn't want to be in the contest, Staffay, but the prizes are
yours if you want them. I put them up myself, so I am not going to renege on my word.
If so, email me your name and address, Staffay, and I will get those prizes shipped
to you asap. Congratulations! You really rock on that guitar, man, and besides your
entertaining style of singing, the lyrics had to make me laugh! All the best to you
because you really came through for Rock -N- Roll. smile.gif

FOR THE NEXT CONTEST:

4TH, 8TH & 16TH NOTE TRIPLETS ACROSS THE BOARD (JUST LIKE SCALES).
NO TALENT REQUIRED!

GRAND PRIZE:
1 NEW BLUE RUBBER BAND (to mute your strings). laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Posted by: Fran Mar 1 2010, 03:09 PM

Congrats Staffay, well deserved smile.gif

Posted by: Boson Mar 8 2010, 11:13 PM

Is this still running?

I thought there might b lots of entries as I dont think anyone can call themselves a guitarist untill Johnny B Goode is in their repertoire.

For the record I am nearly a guitarist as I can play all the parts of this but have to work at putting them together!! cool.gif
