I suppose it depends what you want it for. Is it for home practice? For playing on stage or studio work?

I bought a Zoom505 a few years ago for only $60 and It's been an excellent buy.

I have heard that it can be a noisey pedal on stage but I only play at home so I have no compaints.

It has many effects and they all sound great with my guitar and practice amp.

Let me know what you get.

Cheers
Mike

I think that Zoom or Boss multifx would be ok for home practice. I had a bad experience with digitech.
I preffer individual Boss pedals or line 6 products for stage.

My first effect ever was Digitech RP100 - it was around 120$ and i was extremely satisfied with it for home playing. Later when i started playing in a band i realised disadvantages of multieffects so it all depends on what you plan to use it for.

That's strange. I only use Digitech pedals. My first Multifx was Digitech, now i use Digitech pedals and only Boss PW-10 Wah. They never let me down so far so i think Digitech rules!

whats the disadvantage of multi effects pedals? ;o, I have a Zoom 505II too but i never tried it live.. it was OK for home use so i would not know why it would be bad for band situations.. Im curious hehe

I bought a POD XTL some 6 months ago.. works fine for me as multi effects, stage or home hehe..

If u want a cheaper alternative for the XTL, get a POD 2.0 or a standard POD XT.. Line 6 produce excellent effects.

First of all if it's like Zoom 505 or Digitech RP series - you'll get in trouble scrolling through presets if you want to make more than 2 presets for each song. Second thing is that those "middle class" effects sound like crap when you turn you amp louder. That's why those cheap effects are for practice and home playing only.

When i was first told about disadvantages i didn't thought it will be that bad. Once i started playing with band and played 2 gigs i went crazy about how bad it was scrolling through effects in the middle of the song. Also - the moment you press the pedal to switch preset you have that 1 second of broken signal - thats too bad!

But as i said - it depends on what you plan to use it for and what effects are you buying. So before buying anything make sure it's a useful thingy! smile.gif

I've used several differenct multi-effects over the years (zoom, alesis, Line6) - whether or not you are happy with the sound depends on what you are trying to achieve, and like everything else, they vary in quality and you generally get what you pay for. Of all of them I like the PodXT the best in sound quality terms, and I didn't get the broken signal effect Pavel is talking about in the effects I used, but then I paid for good ones.

Another absolute essential is that whatever you use, as a lead guitarist for a multi effect you will need a footswitch, and a fair amount of preparation setting up patches for your various songs. Then when playing live you can smoothly and easily switch between them.

As ever, the rule is try before you buy and figure out if you can live with it.

Has anyone tried Zoom G2.1u? I need something to make recording easier, and it seems to be a good choice.

I expect that is a fine unit. I actually have the g1x and that is not bad. And I have read enough reviews to know the g2.1u has to be better.

However you might look around for a good deal on the g9.2tt. The two tubes add a lot I think. The controls are great, and three expression pedals. I have that in addition to the g1x. I think I got mine for $330 or so. But you have to look around for the best deals. I think Zoom honors just about seller as far as warranty goes.

Now if I would just take the time to learn how to use the thing. I have sort of been satisfied with the presets. Most everybody says the presets are crap, and the thing comes alive when you make the adjustments. Need to do that. But I have found a lot of presets that sound good to me, and have been lazy about setting my own.

My general advise is, be willing to spend a bit more, and get what you really want. And if you look for a good deal, you might not spend that much after all.

I think you will like that, when I researched these, I looked at some youtube demos of some guy who had one, and it was nice. All the zooms in this line have the same processor in them. Yes, it comes back to me now, a lot of guys that I read reviews on the g2.1 really said nice things about it.

If you like to write a small review after I'd be interested to read what you think of the G2.
Esp. if you use it with your computer.

Well, I started out with no effects unit and a crappy amp. Discovered how unsatisfying that could be, so a friend loaned me an old Zoom unit. Came in handy, but a pig to use so I upgraded my amp and bought a Line6 Pod Live XT.

The Pod is great, very easy to use and able to deliver a lot of value for the money.

Still, now that I've developed a little more as a guitarist I have found it more useful to work with the pickup settings, the tone settings, and the amp configuration to get my sound. I get better results that way, and have more control over things. The Pod is currently only being used as a very overpriced in-line tuner.

BTW, both Zoom and Line6 make excellent effects units. Just make sure the user interface is one you can work with - some are cryptic, unhelpful, and downright painful to navigate.

Hey everyone, I have been taking guitar lessons over the past year but have seen little to no progress from my weekly one hour session with my instructor (I think he is more interested in getting his carrier started than teaching others-although that's what he's getting paid to do). Of course a lot has to do with the fact that I have to work 10-12 hours a day, which leaves me with very little personal time. And on topic now, I am also very much interested in buying a multi effects pedal and budgetwise my attention is focused on either the Digitech RP250 or the Zoom GU2.1U. Both are well constructed and full of lots of sounds to mess with, however I have to give extra points to the RP250 since I can plug it in to my computer and edit or store presets in a much easier way. After looking for reviews of these products over the internet, I found at the following link http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/gui...p250/index.html that one of the users was running the RP250 through a Line 6 amp and got a really bad sound. He later found out that Line 6 amps do not work well with multi effects pedals. Since I own a Line 6 Spider III 30Watt amp, I would really appreciate it if someone could actually tell me if this is the case. I will try to get in touch with Line 6 on this matter but I am guessing that they will probably try to persuade me into buying one of their Pod series products.

Thanks a lot for your time.

And by the way my current setup is as follows:
Guitar: Yamaha ERG-121 (in the process of getting an IBANEZ RG350DX)
Amp: Line 6 Spider III 30 Watt, Marshall MS-2C practice amp, Laney 10 Watt amp
Overdrive pedal:DOD YJM308 Overdrive pedal.
WAH: Morley's Steve Vai "Bad Horsie".
