I've got my new guitar, but a tax return means a possibility for more gear, and who doesn't like new gear?

I've been talking to a friend of mine who plays bass, and he's been wanting to start a band with me. We also have a friend in common who sings, and maybe when Covid is over it could be time to start something. We were starting to talk about it just as Covid hit a year ago.

So I'm looking at the headrush. I think it looks nice, and from what I can tell it has good reviews, but nothing is better than hearing from you guys!

Anyone with experience of the Headrush pedalboard?

It's based on the 11 rack as you probably already know, and I own one of those old units and I still love it as the high gain tones on it are just freaking amazing and it will let you put a parametric EQ at the head of the chain which is how one gets the Meshuggah style mechanical chunk out of this unit. the core algos are expanded from the orignal and you get two signal paths. The only CON i am aware of is that they didn't have a software editor for building patches which is a bit of a pain, but not a deal killer as the huge touch screen allows easy editing. I've read the same great reviews and I love the original. it's priced competitively and sounds great in the demos.

Yes, I know about the 11 Rack being it's predecessor. And also about the small con you mentioned, but they still have a rig-cloud though, where people can share their rigs. It's a bit tedious to do, I suppose, having to connect via USB and go through some menus, but at least it's possible, and as you say the big touch screen looks nice.

My thoughts as well smile.gif I actually asked them on facebook to add a software editor. They did respond and said they were looking in to it. Evidently, the big touch screen makes patches easy to edit and as you say you can download patches. It's just a bit more work. It does seem to be a great sounding unit.

The HELIX LT is one of the top competitors in this range. It does offer a software editor and many similar features but the touch screen interface isnt' quite as good according to most of the reviews, but still workable. The units are only a couple hundred bux apart in cost.

Of course the FRACTAL FM3 is also about a grand. It's got far fewer stomp buttons, no volume/wah, but it's got the Fractal Algos which are amazing and the killer software editor. You'd need to add an external foot controller like the behringer unit to get similar funcationality to the head rush or helix lt.

I keep reading people say the Headrush is actually nicer than the Helix, but you can probably find people saying it the other way around too. smile.gif

at our local store they had one set up next to a helix, they were interchangeable, one had something the other did not kind if vibe, and the helix definitely had 'more' but the headrush was on sale for 699 and the helix was 1400, I did not have the money but the helix was not worth twice the price IMO

I do read that the Helix has more options, especially in regards to amp models it seems, but that the ones that the Headrush do have sounds better. But I've not read every review and comparison of course.

I have to agree the headrush does seem to sound better than the helix in most of the shootout vids I've seen. I've tried the helix plugin and it sounded good to be sure. I still thought it had just a pinch of the top end sizzle that I never really liked about line 6 high gain algos. The headrush amps seem to sound a bit more organic. But this is just from vids I've seen. I've not tried one yet, though I'd like to smile.gif The small head rush unit is only $700 and has the same sounds, just fewer pedal buttons and no wah. For the price iit's tough to beat.

Hi Ben! I've tried the smaller version and I really liked it. It was really easy to set up and the tones were good.

This article compares many ones:
