GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Gmc Hurted My Fingers / Competition ! (the Official Dirty Fingers Thread)
Posted by: Staffy Oct 25 2009, 08:40 AM
Look here what GMC did to my fingers! I can't hardly type on the keyboard anymore. (but my health insurance doesn't consider this to be enough for a vacation from work... )
Post Your fingers here until new years eve, the baddest fingers will get a present from me!!! (instructors are welcome as well ) Posts are rated on a 1-10 scale, but the final judgement will be at new years day!

wow.. I thought.. I was the only one.. Its all gone now but it was worst that that.. I could hardly touch the strings but it became so tough that bends are not a problem now (almost) and vibrato is super cool (than before). Pain is not even there.
I was thinking of posting it then but somehow didn't as it was too ugly.
Glad you started it.
Muris raped my finger tips. Yes, this happened after the MTP.
Hehe, I can cleary understand what a MTP with Muris going to do with Your fingers, he's a walking health disaster!!

To prevent infection from that small laceration on your finger sitting right next to the dirt on all the other fingers

but your picture is crazy, thats looks very painfully...

Nah, this is what you need:
Applications:
Apply directly to fretting fingers and leave to dry. Alternatively, apply to fretting fingers and then immediately attach to another area of skin. Wait for adhesion and then remove fingers from flesh with force: INSTA-CALLUS!
Posted by: Santiago Diaz Garces Oct 29 2009, 07:20 AM
Hahahah!! Nice competition. Your fingers will show how hard do you practice. So, we'll discover who's working and who's not. Take care!!. hahaha

Hmmm, it doesn't seems preferable before starting one of Muris lessons. You might ending up beeing glued in an off-pentatonic mode...

Im not in the competetion, Im the judge!!! Btw. nice picture! This definitely scores 6.5 and You are in the lead so far, though there is just You competing at the moment. Come on guy's, let's see some bleeding fingers, or have all of You stopped practicing???

EDIT: No I'm not using barb-wire, but at the moment i'm *trying* with 0.12 instead of 0.11 on my strat....

Hmm, they didn't look so hurted, more like they should when You are practicing hard.
But I will give You a 6 on these, even though there aren't any real "trails" from the strings.
That the fingerprints are almost gone, does level up though.

Hey guys,
take good care of your fingertips!
Since I went back to a regular, even daily practice routine I started from 15 minutes each day to a maximum of 2 hours a day. My girlfriend told me to wash my hands afterwards with a soap that moisturizes the skin, then I put on some rich lotion. Guess what? The fingertips got harder over time, but nevertheless the skin stayed kinda smooth...well, it's not so rock'n'roll, I guess
But another story:
Before my last gig with my band my girlfriend ask me to do wash the dishes, and I said (remembering a Joe Satriani interview): "That's not so good right now, you know, I have a gig this evening and the water softens my fingertips." And she was like: " That's the most creative excuse I've ever heard"
But it worked!
Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Nov 22 2009, 11:52 PM
Taking care of fingertips is important, and this is why the winner will probably get a premium skin lotion or something
Posted by: Staffy Nov 22 2009, 11:56 PM
What??? Am I considered as beeing a beauty-expert or something like that in this forum??? There will be no lotions/perfumes or womens clothes in this competition !!!!

Hehe...I think I'm gonna take a photo of my fingers after band practice tonight, before and after washing them and applying lotion. I gotta admit, I've got a feeling that I'm a candidate for a new GMC funny with my lotion advice
Posted by: Keilnoth Nov 23 2009, 08:52 AM
I am currently reading Creative Guitar 1 by Gunthrie Govan and he says exactly the same. Don't play guitar right after having had a shower/bath or after having washed the dishes.
Btw, I never had any problem with my fingers. Perhaps I am not practicing enough ? I prefer to practice often for 1 or 2 hours than practicing during 10 hours once a week...

Yeah, thats true! But also it depends on what kind of strings You use, (I had .012 on my Strat, but have "downgraded" to .011 because of the finger problems...) the type of playing - bends seriously hurt Your fingers more than playing C-major scales....
and of course the action of the instruments itself!
Posted by: Keilnoth Nov 23 2009, 10:57 AM
My guitar's action is very low (too low actually) and I have .042 - .009 strings.

So there's the answer....... playing with heavy strings really hurts Your fingers, but on the other hand the Tone benefits from it, so I just keep on hurting myself!

Have you read the Guitar Tip of The Day from Kris???
Thicker string gauge gives a better sound, but I prefer thinner because it allows you to du so much more when soloing. BOO!!!!!!!

Spoiled from childhood I guess....
And in fact I have a Mexican piece'o'junk Strat that claims to be Fender, (oki, oki it is one of the only Fenders actually worth the money, or am I saying so in some sort of defense??? ) and I guess it's a quite good guitar, even that You may assemble a similar one with pieces found at any junkyard nearby....
