When I practice alternate picking, this is one of the main exercises I use.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7lTOATS2lU...;watch_response.

The first one in the video.

When I start out my pick is like this (which is how I like it).

It stays like that while I am descending then, when I start ascending it progresses inwards like this.

I want it stay like it is in the first picture, but it won't! I could hold the pick tighter but then I wouldn't be relaxing like I am supposed to in order to play fast.

I've been working on alternate picking speed like crazy the past couple weeks, because while my sweeping was getting faster, my alternate picking was still pretty slow. Now that I am pretty fast, this is the new problem I encounter.

Ahh, I have this problem sometimes when practicing this exercise too.

But think about it, how often will you being doing this for 5 minutes straight without even stopping for a longer note where you can fix your pick or whatever.

It's totally normal though. Nothing to worry about.

Actually I like the position of the pick in the picture 2 better....but, okay if you like to keep it as on picture 1 that's fine too.

Your problem is because you are holding the pick in a angle that is not 90 degress relative to the string and hold the pick to loosely, but you tense up your wrist. The pick then tends to loose the initial position because of the string contact.
