I found a good deal on craigslist for a 5150 cab, and was thinking of getting it. I have never played through one and was curious what peoples opinions are of it. I was gonna hold off and get a Marshall 1960 with G12T-75's, but this is a pretty good deal. Thoughts anyone?

I have played through them several times but I don't own one...

They are not bad, the tone is quite similar to the Marshall 1960 with g12-75s I would say but it really depends on the amp you are going to use it with because some amp/cab combinations just don't seem to work out!
Best thing would be testing your amp on both cabs in a store and then decide - although my personal recommendation would be a Marshall 1960 AV cab with vintage 30 speakers: good price, great tone, a standard on every stage for every genre!

I have the same Sheffield speakers in my 6505 2x12. I think they sound fantastic (with the 6505 amp that is, of course), but I only have an Eminence 15" speaker in my Fender to compare them with, so it's a good idea to follow Zakk's advice.

Thanks for your advice, much appreciated Heres my dilemma, any cab I'm gonna get is gonna be used, so I can't test them out at the store. The Marshall 1960 cabs are usually around $400 used and the 5150 are around $300, which is pretty much half the price of the new ones. And many times their just as good as new, because people buy half stacks and don't realize how loud they are

I was gonna use the cab with a Valveking head, and the 1960 with T-75s compliments this head very well. I know the V30s are fantastic speakers, I just haven't heard them with the Valveking yet

And now the bad news, I got on my bike this morning to go to school, and the starter died So no toys this month



So what kind of music do you play with it?

I know you are going to buy a used cab, and that's a clever way to save some money but the Marshall 1960 cab and the Peavey 6505 cab are pretty much basic equipment that can be found at most music stores, aswell as your Valveking head!!!

It shouldn't be hard to find a store that carrys these cabs and your amp; you could take your gutiar and test out the new cabinets in the store and based on your desicion you can go and buy the used version of the cab you liked most!

Thank you ZakkWylde, I'll go down Guitar Center and see how long the folks there can tolerate "Enter Sandman" at half volume through all their cabs

Mostly metal, and the combo absolutely rocks for that But depending on the guitar and the pickups you can get some marvelous clean tones out of the amp & cab as well
