Hi there, We are having some trouble in our band, and we don't know what to do
First of all we don't having any rules, like whene im visiting my brother and the rest of the band is making a song or editing a song while im not there(And they are not telling me that they does it ). So the next time we get together and start play, then they say "Eyy Chris, We have edited the song". Then im getting real mad :S. and if the bassist or the singer is absent and we are editing something in the song. then the bassist or the singer can refuse to perform it on a stage because they don't like it :S the 2nd one that only the singer knows what the song text is about, so whene we are on the stage playing, we don't know what the heck he's singing :S. the 3rd one is that the singer and the bassist is the "boss", and we are just doing everything they say we must do. I would say that this has been going on for something like a year and now i just want to quit the band, and start an new project with the drummer the guitarist. any suggestion how i can get this band getting more serious? What's said earlier is great advice. have a band meeting when noone bring their instruments. We've had several when we've run into problems. A gettogether where someone writes a protocol and there's a serious discussion taking place and a plan made.
If you can't agree on a plan I'd say ditch em. It's not bad if someone in the band takes command, it's not bad if someone edits the song... As long as everyone is fine with it. You're obviously not, so if you can get the drummer and the guitarist with you, cool, you're almost still a band while the other two have to keep looking for other members that can accept their style of being. So to you I suggest that you get your friends you get along with and start something new that's more fun that your present band. It's not worth the sacrifise to struggle with stubborn and difficult people just to be in a band. This post has been edited by MickeM: Jan 9 2008, 11:02 PM -------------------- My bands homepage

Hmm, that is not a good situation, but I think you can solve it through one conversation. You must put things out on the open, and everybody should say what do they want in the future. Just say everything that bothers you to your band members and if they are your friends and care about the band they will accept it. If not you know who the rotten apples are. Remember, everybody should have their own opinion in a band, and everybody's opinion counts equally in one way or another.

Well its not so bad of a situation..Try to reason with members..Make a meeting and talk it over..You don't have to rush leaving band or something..They are not telling you that they are editing songs ? Ok , tell them it bothers you. Also I think its somewhat ok to do songs when the most of the band members are available..Not all the time everyone is available..You should take a listen to what they did and give honest opinion and if you don't like it give advices how to make it better..After all if they all like it there must be some reason and you can go along with it (even if you don't like it)...Bassist and singer can refuse to play it but they should provide a better solution then (for their parts). If they can't they should play it as it is..Singer must provide you with lyrics I don't know whats with that ? Just ask him to give them to you (in written form)..I think its good for a band to have a "boss"....But "boss" should be the most motivated man and skilled for that..You gave more than 1 year to this band..You shouldn't easily quit , try to make it better..Reason with the rest of the crew..Take initiative - make new songs...Manage some gigs..
Talk and band meetings in these situations will solve everything..Try setting up some goals along with the ruls.Like make so many songs, recording them, playing so many gigs, getting an record deal etc..These goals will help the band get more focused..I'm getting a picture that your crew doesn't have a good communication in between at all and that can be easily repaired.. -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net
