Akesson did this for PRS. It taught me a great many things about a pro rack.

The SEs are a very reliable guitar and it feels great to see that great artists like them, are using axes like these instead of having uber customized expensive weapons of choice tongue.gif or...is it? biggrin.gif

"If it isn't broken, don't fix it."

Opeth has monster tone. If they manage to do it with cheaper products like Boss Stompboxes and SE's then I am okay with it. At least I know what products to abuse. tongue.gif

I wonder if some bands have special SE models made for them, as endorsers. If their fan base is a younger crowd who could never afford the normal PRS range are they asked to endorse the SE range but have a SE models specially made for them not the normal production models.

Akerfeldt talks about this subject very often in his interviews when questioned about his SE. He says that is the same one anyone can purchase from a store. He wants his signature models to be affordable that way everyone can enjoy them.

That a really nice thinking! I wonder how good the SE can be. I remember trying one and I don't really like it how it felt, there was a so big difference with a PRS custom 24. But maybe I tried a bad one... what can you tell me about the SE compared to other guitar at the same price range like Schecter or Fernandes?

and regarding the topic's thread... every time that I see this video I want an Axe Ultra! smile.gif

I shared this one a while back, got a huge kick out of it.

SIGNAL PATH GUITAR - AXEFX - RACK AMP - CAB DONE

Pretty simple setup smile.gif I was expecting the usual 10 or 20 pedals, huge rack, massive switching, etc. Evidently he convinced Dave Mustaine to use the same rig as well.

Mate, my Paul Allender is way better for modern metal than the Cutom 24 biggrin.gif it may seem strange but it really is tongue.gif

The ALLENDER has active EMGs and a wide/thin neck so it's purpose built for METAL smile.gif The bats are a nice bonus.

It depends on what you want to do with it. The pickups matter a lot. I cannot think of any PRS I thoroughly enjoyed playing when I walked into a store and tried it. The tone was lovely, but they always felt terrible. However, this can be said with most guitars in stores. I have to take the time to properly set up any guitar before I can be certain that I will enjoy it. I have worked on a couple PRS guitars that friends of mine own(I setup other people's instruments from time to time), and absolutely love them after that. For whatever reason whenever I play a Paul Reed Smith I always want to hear:

Aphrodite's Child-End of the World

They just give me this really dark vibe that I mesh with really well. Someday, I will be rich enough to own a Custom 24. Maybe I will work really ridiculously hard this summer and get one.

The new Allender does have the EMGs my old model doesn't tongue.gif but there's something about those pickups which makes them sound very very good. Out of what I know, they are designed by PRS and Paul Allender together.

Cool! So maybe a PRS Se could be a choice! I would like to have a 24 frets + tremolo bar, guitar.

It really makes sense mate. Pick ups are really important of course, but I was also referring more to the feel of the guitar into my hands. The SE that I tried felt cheap, don't know why. However I will give it a second chance.

I haven't ran into an SE that felt cheap, per se, but I have never liked ANY PRS that I played unless they had the proper adjustments made

BINGO! Very, very well pointed out smile.gif the Paul Allender I bought, belonged to my band mate from Aria, which had it set up at our best guitar tech in the city. Probably that's a major reason for why it feels so good!
