GMC Forum _ Uploads _ Kris & Marcus Nocturnal Vision

Posted by: wrk May 6 2008, 04:31 PM

Hi guys,

I want to share with you my take on Kris & Marcus "Nocturnal Vision" Lesson. Since i saw this lesson, i am completely addicted to this song. For unknown reasons i completely missed it when it was announced and discussed in the forum.

I change a few parts in this take ... the number of notes in some licks are beyond my abilities and i don't have a whammy bar on this guitar, so i needed to change a lot of Kris part ... anyway, he has such a great unique style and sound, which makes it impossible for me to copy, but i'm working on it .. promised.

One confession i have to make .. i messed up the 3 string arpeggios at the end (the last two), so i fixed it afterwards, but it was my best take so far ... i hope you will excuse me faking it.

I hope you will enjoy it and i will be glad to get some comments and feedback.

My Sweet Jesus! That was absolutely awesome!!!! biggrin.gif
Great attitude in your playing and also some nice improvisation in there! smile.gif

I have to watch it again now!! laugh.gif

PS. Maybe you could upload this vid at YouTube? The guys with slower internet might think 20 Mb takes to long to download.

JVM - That will be great to hear your take. Some parts of the song are really fast and just insane and i modified it as well to be able to play it. Marcus's 3 Level Neoclassical Lessons were a good help for me ... it is a good example how to keep the same melody, but reduce the amount of notes to a doable level smile.gif ... have fun !!

The last 10 years i didn't played at all ... stupidest thing ever .. I have started again maybe 7-8 months ago.

Your comments here sound like my background history as well. laugh.gif wink.gif This was just a great take my friend. You should be very, very proud of this. Excellent tone and volume control. Vibrato was great and very tasteful. tongue.gif

I am working on this with a friend here at GMC and we will be posting soon, I hope this month. You have motivated me even more.

I hope you will take the time to listen and comment on my tracks when they are up.

Great job!

Thank you guys ... i'm speechless about your great comments. This is a bit unexpected ..
It is great to hear that some of you got motivated and inspired from this track .... i am definitely motivated now as well.

UncleSkillet - Of course i will listen to your take. Let me know when it's up .. i think Marcus and Kris will be honored to have a lot of different interpretations of this tune.

This tune is definately motivating,

Wrk you did an awesome awesome job,

I decided to throw my hat into the ring so to speak and did just an mp3 version (no vid)

I tried to keep the same kinda feel, but i definately took creative license with the whole thing without completely gutting it.

Except for the parts where the basic melodic theme is this whole thing is improved, i left mistakes intact as i recorded it rather then a polished take.

This track is really easy to get carried away on with alot of notes i tried to keep it reeled in for the most part. Let me know what ya think

Daniel

I like it smile.gif Another excellent version!
It's amazing how much variety that can be done on this song.

I also like that you included the small imperfections/mistakes in it, added a more real feel to it.

Posted by: wrk May 11 2008, 03:56 PM

Wao Daniel, awesome soulful take. I can hear and feel you got carried away .. and i'm just following by listening to it 3 times in a row.. ++.

You couldn't know that, but i'm today in a mood between melancholy and happiness and you just delivered the perfect musical background for that .. smile.gif .. Thank you !!

Especially some melodies of yours i will have to try out, as i really like the phrasing in there.

I agree with Trond, amazing how much space this tune have to develop beautiful melodies.

Posted by: UncleSkillet May 11 2008, 05:30 PM

Very nice improv Daniel. smile.gif Your phrasing ideas where interesting, tasteful and cool. Another great inspiring and motivating take.

Sure thing smile.gif

Its very simple, and yet not lol.

Ibanez RG120 stock>GNX3>Sonar 4 PE

The GNX patch i am using though took me a long time to dial in, its using one of those GNX hyper models. Basically as i am sure you are aware the GNX has many amp models, the hyper model function allows you to mix 2 amp models together at various percentages basically.

This patch is a mix of a Dual Rectifier and a Vox 120 roughly about 35, 65 respectively

The distortion stomp model i am using is based on this box

http://www.procosound.com/?page=viewprod&cat=150&id=741

Analog ping pong delay at 450ms with the level around 55, Plate type reverb set at 60

Post recording compressor using vintage style compressor (plugin)

I don't have the program open atm but both amp models have to be EQ'd as well before you blend them, and the output is a 2x12 cab sim

Excellent job Pizzoaro! The only criticism i have is make sure your bends come up to pitch, other then that its dead on man!

Thank you Skalde ... glad you like it !!

I used a POD XT Live, the patch is a modified version of Marcus' patch for his "3-Level-Solo" Lesson. With the POD connected to my mac i used GarageBand for recording. The pickups on my guitar are Seymour Duncan SH4 on the bridge and DiMarzio Cruiser DP186.

If you have a POD, i can upload the patch if you like, or you can download Marcus' patch http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/three-level-solo-beginner/index.htm. He posted the link in one of his comments.

Also I agree with Daniels feedback about the bends!

Hey Kris

Thanx for the input and the comment laugh.gif
Personally i think u and marcus have completely different styles, and thats what makes this song so awesome!

I love ur part, and marcus' part just as much, even how different they are:)

Yeah, i know about the bends... I've been sitting in like 2 days know (all the day almost xD) practicing bending... Doing some bending lessons here and stuff.. I think i am getting better at it now...

Gonna record once more... And this time i will really try to make it flawless:)

Tank u for the input and comment:)

Regards:)

-Lars

Oh! And i have to say it... That sweeping arpeggios u do really kicks ass... Those are insane:D

Hi Lars ... wao, great take !!
I really like how you play the main theme ... the quick slide-ins to the notes are great and makes the melody more alive.

Be careful, don't practice bending to much in short time ... your fingers will hurt badly smile.gif
I'm curious about your new take !!!

Have fun ..

Posted by: Pablo Vazquez May 19 2008, 01:50 AM

Fantastic!!!

Posted by: Pizzoaro May 19 2008, 02:03 AM

Wow people, thanx for the nice comments:D

The new take will be up in a couple of days... I have to dig really deep into the lesson first xD

Every grace note, every pre-bend, every slide, every wah thingy:P

Its an awesome song Kris and Marcus... Really beautiful smile.gif

And once again, thanx people:)

-Lars

- wrk, yours is great as well!!! I really like your vid. Your playing style, i really like it:)

sounds good, but you schould convert the huge wave file(50mb) into the much smaller mp3 format. (3-4mb)
You can do this by using the http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lame-bundle.php.
Copy the lame.dll in your reaper folder and use the render function to render your take as a mp3.
Or you use audiacity, which is a great freeware tool, its very easy to use:
-import the wave file
-use export as mp3
-when the program asks for the mp3 codec, navigate to the lame.dll.

just for the case you do not know smile.gif
I think more people would download your take if it was smaller.
