Hey friends!
We are reaching the end of the year and it's time for balances and to set new goals for the next year. This has been a very positive year for me both personally and professionally. While I'm writing down my plans for the next year, I'd like to know about your 2015's balance. Have you achieved your goals? Is your 2015's balance positive both personally and professionally? -------------------- My lessons

Hello Gab,
I haven't achieved my goals unfortunately. I'd like to nail that Darius lesson sometime next year, I spent a lot of time on it and had to go back to level 2 lessons which I am struggling with due to the rhythm parts. I've had big distractions lately with setting up mic recording and other things in my practise room. I think I need to have more self discipline, when I am struggling with lessons, I allow things to distract me. I have discovered in the last half of this year that I need to feel I am achieving, or at least feel that I am approaching achievement. If I feel I'm not, I look for something to achieve which is really a distraction. I think this is where the mic recording thing came in, it was to take my mind off my lack of achievement in the two lesson I am doing. I really need to correct this mind set somehow. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed learning with Mertay and Todd about recording with a mic, it hasn't been a waste of time but it has slowed progress considerably. So, in summary, I need to clean up my act, get more self discipline and structure my time better then hopefully the rest will follow. Cheers Gab. -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. Thank you for your kind words Monica
I wanted to be able to play the entire works of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Stevie Ray Vaughan by the end of 2015. I'm 50 in February so I'll try and get them under my fingers by then Cheers -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. I know I joked in my previous post but seriously I'd like to become comfortable in level three lessons I'd also like to understand a lot more theory and expand fretboard knowledge. My problem is time so I need lots of very small steps, baby steps to climb my chosen mountain. If I get too much information at once I can't absorb it and I start to lose interest. Part of this is because my job is mentally challenging so my brain needs a defrag

Inspiring posts friends! It seems that it has been a positive 2015 for GMC:ers.

My problem is time so I need lots of very small steps, baby steps to climb my chosen mountain. If I get too much information at once I can't absorb it and I start to lose interest. Part of this is because my job is mentally challenging so my brain needs a defrag Cheers The key when time is reduced is to be effective. In other words, you need to organize your practice and be sure to use the practice time to play the things that you need to achieve your goals, in the case you have specific goals as you have. In your previous post you've said, being able to play full songs by Vai, Satriani. That's not an easy task! Those are masters at what they do, and they compose music based on their technique, style, taste and also based on their limitations. Each guitarist, each person is different so maybe you won't feel comfortable playing other people's music. Everything is possible with practice, but you need to know that those kind of songs are around level 7/8 based on GMC lesson levels, so you need to do some previous steps before you'll be able to master them. It's good to set really high goals, but you need to be realistic when judging your evolution in order to avoid feeling bad or that you haven't improved at all. I think that you have done many steps forwards regarding your guitar playing, and guitar recording skills. And the 3 things that I recommend improving for this year are: - More focused work on less topics. - Enjoying more the journey. - Setting short term mini goals. -------------------- My lessons

Thanks Gab, You missed one out, I actually said "entire works of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Stevie Ray Vaughan by the end of 2015. I'm 50 in February so I'll try and get them under my fingers by then". My tongue was firmly in my cheek I know how hard those are and how skilled the artists are I'm happy with baby steps as you get a sense of achievement I'd rather quickly step up a curb than slowly climb a hill Thanks for everything Gab, I'm looking forward to this year, I'll see you in my mentoring thread soon Cheers -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. I was joking with Monica because she said I had done well last year and I was joking that I hadn't because my goal for 2015 was to play the full works of Satch, Vai and SRV and because I hadn't managed it I'm hoping to get that done by my 50th birthday in February

That's awesome mate! Your musical project sounds very nice as well as your other amazing goals! Congratulations.
I wonder why your youtube videos doesn't include description and clear names to be found by more people. Is there any reason? -------------------- My lessons

Thanks man! =)
These's no reason, I just didn't give it a thought really. Are you talking about small number of views? Any ideas about how to spread a good video? |
