Hello friends!! Welcome to a new GMC Collab!

Cael suggested me working on a Volbeat style one so I've checked my lesson based on them and decided to go for this backing since it has a big potential to become a hit! The idea is to create a real song track so we will need guitar solos, arrangements, melodies and off course lyrics and vocals.

The backing is in 150 bpm, and the key is D major (You can use D major pentatonic and/or B minor pentatonic).

All the additional info about the track can be found HERE.

If you are new to collabs please check out this: LINK

Backing track:
Attached File  Volbeat_Collab.mp3 ( 2.49MB ) Number of downloads: 383

Deadline: July 3rd.

WHO IS IN?

This is the final work!

Thanks Ben,

I've never heard of Volbeat so I just listened to the lesson page, it was a one shot take to see what Gab thought about it.

Cheers buddy smile.gif

Hi Phil, I think that you've used D minor pentatonic and the best scale for this is D major / B minor. Am I right?

Lol, yes, sorry, I was using artistic freedom tongue.gif Seriously though, I am that used to playing minor I found the root and went for it rolleyes.gif At the moment my ears can't differentiate. But, in the correct key, would something like that be ok?

Cheers

The main issue here is the note choice for the strong beats related to the chords. You tend to play a major or minor second. For example, analyze the first bend and compare it with the chord sounding. That happens most of the time in this one. Try to target notes from the chord at first, thirds for example.

About your question, yes, experiment with the right key. Let's use this as a workout. Feel free to share more tries. (and please remember to share the only guitar file for the last take).

Sounds like a plan!! I"ve been using odd keys and Major scales in many of my shred challenges as well. I do find that it can throw folks off just a pinch, but that's where the most learning happens imho smile.gif In the spots that we are a bit jiggy on.

Hello Gab,

I've been looking at this again and I now know where I went wrong, if you read your first post it says "The backing is in 150 bpm, and the key is B major (You can use B major pentatonic and/or D minor pentatonic)."

It didn't sound right to me but I didn't know why as I don't trust my ears and I was following instructions tongue.gif biggrin.gif

Here's another go wink.gif

Just trying something for a verse. Starts about 22 seconds in.

Heard the angels cry in fear

Hi Cael! Sounds good! Please define with more precision the notes that you are singing. We need that the pitch sounds the more precise possible, because I'd like to harmonise this lead vocal. Learn the melody in your guitar and sing along to adjust pitch and we will have a hit.
