I'm going to push myself real hard and hopefully post a worthy take. With that said, I'll most likely post mine a few days before the deadline. I'd ask for some guidance in our Mentoring Thread, if that's okay. I'll explain my ideas in there.
I'm going all-out in this Collab and I hope it'll be worth waiting for.

It's not only for shredders! Add your own style here mate!
Hi Phil! You tone sounds great over this backing, and your take is also cool! I think that this one can work for the collab. The only thing that I would change is the ending... I would add some doble string ascending bends there to give it a more dramatic ending. But it's just a subjective opinion.

Cool take Phil and Ben!!! PHIL, gabe is just saying that a "big finish" is a good way to wrap up a solo. He's right of course You can use any technique you want. E.G. Add a harmony, do a tapping bit, etc. So that the solo "builds" to a crescendo. I sometimes use a burst of speed, or pinch harmonic, etc. at the end as a sort of exclamation point, as it were, at the end of a musical sentence

Thanks Todd,
I've been thinking of using the whammy pedal. I want to do much more than what I do here but this is an idea. It was very rushed as I had to speak to my insurance for over an hour about that accident I had,

Better!! It builds to the ending which is a good idea in a solo. Also, as this is an EVH tribute, a bit of tapping does seem appropriate The first blues/box pattern you play, can you wag the vibrato a pinch more? I'm not sure if this will work given your recent issues that made playing or raising your arms difficult. I'd just like to see more drama in the vibrato, EVH often made use of exaggerated vibrato, so it seems fitting

Hi Victor! Congrats on your first collab!!!
I can say that this is a cool solo! I don't notice things to improve here. Everything sounds good here. If you ask me, my less favorite parts are:
- 00:14 : It sounds a bit out of tune or dissonant here. I would make a variation there to give the phrases a different ending compared to the previous one in the lower octave. - 00:21: It's cool to add a bend there but I would try another note. - 00:24: I also think that the note choices here are note the best one.
The key is that you try to use mostly E minor pentatonic instead or E minor during the riffing section.

Yeah I need to work on my wide vibrato, not just the technique but also re-strengthening the muscles that do it. I've always struggled with wide vibrato and it's that bit more difficult now. One of the things is that it never feels like there is enough time to fit it in if that makes sense.
Cheers

Wou!! Those are killer solos MisterM!! It's cool to see how all your hard work with GMC collabs is showing killer improvements in your own solos. Congrats and thanks!!
Nice! Much better! The only issue that I hear here is the note at 00:36, which is C while A major is sounding in the backing. The correct note there would be C# that is part of the chord (it's major third). The minor third sounds out.

You can do it mate! There is no need to go fancy, Eddie also had a super melodic side. Jam around and see if you can come up with something that sounds like it could be sung - then you know you have a good melodic lead going.

Thanks guys! i'm using the left hand wide spacing thing that EVH used in Hot for Teacher but just in a different way with more right hand note variation. I thought it would make a fitting tribute. I've borrowed so much from EVH that it's hard to play a solo without giving him an homage His influence lives on.
PS: Using overloud THU to get a roughly 'EVH" tone and using the SPX90 rack unit in that patch to give it the 80s chorus vibe. Love that spx90. I've wanted one for years and now it's part of my fave plugin suite. The dude from BIG HAIRY GUITARS got overloud to add it! God bless him.

Sorry buddy, it's an English term with multiple meanings, obviously you will have had hiccups (hipo in Spanish) at some point in your life but in this instance, it means "glitch", or something not quite right. Maybe it's my ears, or that I was very tired but the transition from the previous take to mine doesn't sound smooth. If it sounds good to you then I'll bow to your experience

Oh! I've missed that part. It wasn't intentional to delete the end of your soloing. I dedicated the first day to find the best way to connect all parts (the main problem was that we had much more "chorus" takes than "verse" takes) and for any reason I missed that part from your take.
You can miss something when working on this kind of monster audio and video projects. That's why I shared the pre mix to ask everybody if everything was ok. You should have told me there!

Sorry buddy, I only listened to my bit for a few seconds as I've heard it that many times, I skipped through to listen to everyone else. I guess subconsciously I never expected anything to be changed on the guitar part. I don't know what happened though, you didn't delete the end, there is still a note there and you can hear the slide down the neck at the very end but not the whammy pedal pitch increase. I'm only listening on my phone's built in speaker though so maybe it's not quite what I think.
Never mind, I fully understand how big these projects are mate and really appreciate your time and skill doing them. Its still a great collab.
Thanks buddy.

It was my fault Gab, in Reaper, (maybe in other DAWs too), you have to have your guitar track and another track routed through it with the MIDI information. When you record you have to have both tracks, guitar and MIDI set to record. When I rendered the track I muted all channels except for the guitar track which caused the midi signal to not work so the whammy effect didn't happen.
I guess it's too late to drop it into the video but it's there if you want to and it isn't too much of a ball ache. It was my mistake but at least I've learnt something and understand Reaper a little bit more now

We can also give it some more time any see if we get any other inspiration.
Maybe could use a student backing track as a starting point?
Not that it has to be anything like what I suggested, but I suggested a Led Zeppelin style on the last page. Just thought I'd chime in with that again.

Any backing in mind?
By now we have:
- Led Zeppelin Style: 1 vote - John Mayer Slap backing: 1 vote - Slow Blues Phrasing: 1 vote

I'll have to look, but there are quite a few Led Zeppelin lessons. Let me check for a bit

Mammoth WVH 11.7K subscribers Published on 16 Nov 2020 “As my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I’d miss him. While the song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their life. I never intended ‘Distance’ to be the very first piece of music people would hear from me, but I also thought my father would be here to celebrate its release. This is for him. I love and miss you, Pop.” - WVH

"Distance" I’m so happy You’ve found a place That’s better for you Than this rock we’re living on I’m so nervous Don’t know my place A life without you I’m not ready to move on
No matter what the distance is I will be with you No matter what the distance is you’ll be okay
I’m so tired Can’t see your face My memory of you Slowly fades when I go on I’m still cryin’ Don’t want this place A world without you I don’t think I’ll ever move on
No matter what the distance is I will be with you No matter what the distance is I will be with you No matter what the distance is I will be with you No matter what the distance is you’ll be okay

No matter what the distance is you’ll be okay No matter what the distance is you’ll be okay I’m so happy You’ve found a place

Did you play it to the very end Gab? The voicemail from Eddie to Wolfgang?
Very poignant!

Heart wrenching. Having lost my own Dad, I can relate.

The clip ends with a voicemail message from Eddie to Wolfgang: "I’m just so happy to have you as my son and I’m so proud of you. I love you so much - call me if you get a chance. I wanna hear your voice, okay? I love you, bye."
