It takes a skilled guitar tech a maximum of 10 minutes to lower your action... AND HE IS CHARGING 80£ FOR THAT?

Even for a complete set up with new strings that is way too much money...
My local guitar store does it for 15Euros! Go look for another store or check for a setup guide on youtube.

I would suggest looking for a different tech to do the job! Its a rip-off for the task at hand. That string height is called "Action". You can lower it by lowering strings at the bridge, adjusting the truss rod and possibly adjusting the nut (grinding etc).

Its best to leave the job to professional if you never done it, but you can try it yourself its not that hard.

Here are some resources online about it:

http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/trussadjust.htm
http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/action.htm

You can also download a users manual from Fender.com for some guitars, they all include those adjustment information a how to.

£80????
Mate, that's FAR too expensive just to set the Action!!!!!
I don't even charge that for a full Set-up including STRINGS!!!

It is something you can do yourself with a bit of patience!!
What guitar is it on?
Let me know and I'll try to talk you through how to do it!!!

I'll show my new gear in a topic tomorrow. It's just a bit too much cause I already paid for a set-up today, and I came home noticing the strings weren't the same height so I think I'm getting way to rip off..

As Marc is suggesting, not all guitars have a neck of the same radius. What kind of neck is it?

If you press the 6th string on first and the last fret, is there any distance between strings and frets in the middle of the fretboard?

Hehhe its possible! smile.gif 80£ is abnormal price but its not impossible I guess...Ask him again about the price, and regarding the second guitar - take it back for a complain. No strings should buzz after proper setup!

From the 6th fret back, they look to close to the fretboard and it starts to grow higher after the 6th fret

Did you press down at the last fret as well, does it looks evenly growing higher from both sides in the middle of the neck?

No, it's like...one part looks to close, the other looks to far away.

80 quid is ridiculous. When you asked him to change the "distance between the frets and strings" he probably thought he could take you for a ride. What a tool.

This is strange, if the neck is evenly bowed it can be fixed with trust rod adjustment.. but if the neck is warped it is not cheap to repair, but anyway you can ask some other tech for opinion if possible
