Just bought a nice hotrodded ultra modded Blackheart BH5H from Rat Valve Amps, a little company that specialzies on mods. The basic model here is the above mentioned Blackheart.

BTW the spectacular thing about this amp is the powerscaling. This allows you to crank pre and power amp at low volume. So you get perfect pre and power amp gain at bedroom level. Much better than a power soak. In addition you can switch between L84 and 6L6GC output tubes which allows for totally differnt gain caracteristics.
There are many more mods Andy from Rat Amps put in. Just a super versatile amp for studio and also small gigs. Ok only one channel but what did they build pedals for?

you could get yourself a Blackstar 5HT (the thing Muris won at GI). Great sound and definetly great for home studio.

Yeah, I'll check it out thanks. I could probably do some of the mods myself - I definitely want that power scaling!

Wow!!

Those mods look pretty cool, changing valves, powerscaling & even the pedal. Awesome.
I had an eye on that amp but realized it would be too loud for home use cranked. With these mods it looks & sounds killer.

Looking forward for a review when you get it smile.gif

I've built a few tube amps before. 5 watts cranked in your bedroom will make your ears bleed! biggrin.gif Particularly with an efficient speaker.

This is interesting tho. The power scaling almost seems must have. Egnater has an amp that does the dual tube w/mix thing too.

Yup. Even my AC4 at 0.25 Watts setting is already too loud for an apartment when cranked through its 12'' cab!

Love it!. As i said I can't really crank it at home, but I use a satchurator dist pedal in front and it takes it pretty well, gives a beautiful overdrive on low gain & a powerful nwobhm "maidenish" roar when gain /guitar volume is increased.
