Great as in "omg, this band will be in my top 10 favourite bands ever"-good, I'd say Wolves in the Throne Room. It's been a while since I discovered new bands though, with the exception of Wolves in the Throne Room this spring.

Been discovering a little over Myspace and found a bunch of really cool metalband:

Decades of Despair (France)
The Absence (US)
The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza (US)
Last Aid (Sweden)
She Said Destroy (Norway)

These are all really cool metalbands which is worth checking out, most of them are typically a mix of melo-death and prog, while the middle and last one have a more hardcore-sound. Also, you could check out The Farmhouse Killings (www.myspace.com/thefarmhousekillings), which is my band tongue.gif. Its not to good yet and the recording-quality isn't the best, but the sound is ok enough for a demo I think. Enjoy yourselves!

This thread seems to be some sort of metal-page rolleyes.gif and although i'm a big metal fan the last band that blew me away was actually the Swedish

Johnossi

with their simple yet effective acoustic work and awesome lyrics. I had to grab my acoustic to sing along: you you you you're just an animal developed in twooo... biggrin.gif cool.gif

Hi Guys, just thought I'd add A7X. I discovered them recently, and I think they're excellent!
On the subject of 'Lamb of God', I saw them supporting 'Dio' recently along with another band, 'Frozen Earth', I think they were called. 'FE' weren't too bad, but 'LOG' were awful - it just sounded like a racket. Everyone walked out and went to the bar until they finished!
Dio was amazing, by the way, along with the legend, Tony Iommi.
Catch him if you get the chance.
Oh yeah, can anyone answer this? Was it actually Dio that appeared in the Bisto gravy advert singing "Shepard's Pie", or just a Dio look-a-like?!!

Thanks!
KG

I like this kind of discussions. Year ago I discovered Moodorama, and now it's officially my favorite band. They play electro-nu-jazz stuff. Very very weird. And it amazes me that they are relatively unknown. They got this female vocal, ala Bjork, absolutely brilliant.

Caution!
Music of Moodorama is very slow, and can get you in dark mood and altered state of mind in a minute. Be careful!

Posted by: AudunESP Oct 8 2008, 09:57 AM

The last gret band i recently discovered is Queens of the Stone age. They was guest band for Foo FIghters in Bergen, Norway, which i was on (actually they were a warm-up, though they are simply too great to be "warmup", so they wrote "guest-band" instead). They just blew me away. The music was fantasticly cool and original, and Josh Homme had this really rough on-stage image. They are now on my favourite rock-band smile.gif

Hey, there are a lot of good metal bands here.

So, I won't suggest any others.

However, if your looking for some other good music, these are the 'non-metals' I'm into at the moment. These are in no particular order, and not necessarily new bands:

- Death Cab for Cutie (my favorite non-metal band...no they aren't gay LOL)
- Ray LaMontange (the song 'Jolene' is good)
- Oakalla (they only have 1 song 'War')
- The Spill Canvas
- Sam Roberts
