Strat Mods For Rockers |

Hey Raph, i "updated" my strat and it's much more easy and fun to play, i do really love old vintage strats, but mostly because the wood, not a big fan of the vintage pickups, tremolo, etc.
Here's one of my mod strats, installed a wilkinson vs-100n bridge, graphite nut, sperzel locking tuners, locking strap, dimarzio chopper on bridge, an ibanez single on the mid, and currently it got a fender stock on the neck from the 80's, waiting on a dimarzio cruiser to stock it there  , also it got just one tone for the 3 pickups.

Is it a Fender Roadworn or did you worn it out by Yourself???

well the guitar was in this state when i bought it, the body it's from the 70's so i asume the previous owners really beat the crap out of it, and i try to do the same

My other guitars all use humbuckers and for rock, the humbucker pickups provide the big fat sound that I missed with the new strat. So to get my strat where I want it, I decided to switch out the bridge pickup only so that I could have the bright, crisp sound, and even preserve the strat "quack" on the neck and middle, and then get the rock lead sound I'm after when using the bridge pickup. I went with a Seymour Duncan stacked double coil for the new bridge pickup to preserve the vintage look of the strat (also, my strat body is not routed for the wider humbucker and I didn't want to go through the trouble and expense of re-routing the body). I haven't actually hooked up the new SD so I don't know exactly what it wil sound like but recommendations from the others here at GMC made me confident that I've made the right choice. When I get it hooked up, I'll post a report here to let you know how it sounds. (probably the next time I change strings). It's the best guitar i've played
(and i have a jem hahaha)that push pull idea is GREAT, i used to have a strat with two mini switches besides de 5 way selector, and it got a LOT of pickup combinations, sounded great but was a little too complex for my playing  QUOTE (Raph @ Oct 28 2009, 03:48 PM) Wow Adrian, is that thing still playable? I've seen this wiring mod which involves turning the volume pot into a push/pull pot and it allows you wil the pot pulled in neck position to combine it with the bridge pickup for a Tele "in-between" effect and also on position 2 (neck + middle) with the pot pulled, it can add in the bridge pickup into the mix, putting all 3 pickups on. Amazing, don't you think? Just thought I would mention, part of the reason a Strat sounds like it does, is that it has no shielding (which sucks up tone). I would personally not do anything to my Strat, I want it to sound like a Strat. It is a very unique guitar as it is. If you listen to some of Ivan's stuff, with a Strat, you hear what I am talking about, you really can't get that sound with any other guitar. And as I said, the lack of shielding is a part of that equation. |
