GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Help Choosing Solo Version?

Posted by: Todd Simpson Feb 1 2013, 01:52 AM

I''m working on a solo for a song I"m guesting on and I've made two versions of the vid for it. I wanted to ask which version you guys liked better?

Without Fx or

With Fx

I'm thinking the fx version is too distracting?

First of all, Awesome!!! biggrin.gif

Is it possible to put one of those "Polls" at the top of the post?

Anyways, both are cool. But if I'd have to pick one, my vote in "No FX". But that is probably due to being a student & wanting to "see" the fingering & picking techniques.

I do like the alternating camera angles, too.

I'm curious what others will choose.

Edit: The one with the FX reminds me of the 70's & 80's cop/detective/private eye tv shows when someone has been drugged. biggrin.gif

I like the one without effects. I like the way it cuts back and forth between angles. I think you are right that the one with effects (while very trippy and cool in its own right) is a bit distracting. Awesome solo by the way!!!!!!!!! Can I ask who you are doing this for? Where and when can we hear the whole track? smile.gif

Might be cool to add in the fx when you go to the tapping section - ? You know 'blurry' speed shot.
Nice playing!

I agree with most I think the Fx take away from the performance rather than add anything.

I'd say the majority of the solo without but add the fx to one part of solo when your blistering across the neck.

Thanks smile.gif I wrote it as a "Call and response" solo, so each lick is a response to the lick before it. It's actually written for two guitars but I just played both. I think you are right on the fx!!! I like the non fx version better too..

Got a huge laugh out of our last comment, thanks for that smile.gif It's like an old mcgyver episode where he's drugged. smile.gif It looks like the fx version is getting canned. Thanks for checking it out!

Thanks man wink.gif It for a song called FOREVER MOON from a spiff German gal named ALEXA who does Symphonic Metal type stuff. I really dug here music when I ran in to it online so I thought a guest spot would be cool smile.gif I plan on sharing the track as soon as it's finished, there will be a video as well. Hopefully soon!

That is a good idea smile.gif Just pop it in for a bit during the hyper tapping. I"ll make that version and put it up. Thanks for the ideas!

Great playing man! I'd definitely go without effects though, it's a bit much and - as has been stated already - people want to see what you're playing.

Looks like we have a unison here smile.gif NOFX, NOFX biggrin.gif

Thanks for the feedback guys smile.gif I tried it with the fx just over the fast tapping but and it somehow looks like an error in rendering rather than something intentional. Looks like it's the NO FX version! You guys RAWK!

P.S. We are going to work on some of the licks in this solo in This weekends Video Chat!!!
