After buying my Focusrite interface last year, every month or so Focusrite offer freebies to those who register the product.

Last month was Bias Amp LE and Bias FX LE

I downloaded and installed it but didn't do anything with it.

Yesterday I was thinking how my Axe Fx will be 10 years old this year and I have no back up rig when/If it every fails on me. So I start thinking of my needs, playing live and recording. Playing live I think I would go back to amp and pedals, for as much as I love the Axe Fx and all it can do, I think it has helped my understand what I actually like and use soundwise.

Recording is a different matter and having access to lots of amps and tones is always useful.

This brought me to trying out Bias, now I remember trying Line 6 podfarm years ago and feeling underwhelmed and whilst I'd heard demos of Bias by the likes of Lari Basilio I was still extremely impressed. I grabbed a JCM800 with a boost, overdrive , chorus, delay and reverb and with a couple small tweaks have an awesome lead tone.

I'm now setting up some recording patches in my axe fx that include a dry output 2 so I can record an Axe Fx track and a DI track to use with Bias.

I've used BIAS AMP and FX for a long time now, and I can't see myself switching for anything than an Axe FX II or similar, which I in no way can afford.

Bias sounds good to me though, with some tweaking of the tones in the tonecloud you can get almost any tone you want and get them sounding good.

For solos and the improvisations I sometimes do live on Facebook I use a tone called "Steve Lukather 15' Rig". I quite like it smile.gif

Good plan!!! BIAS is an amazing bit of kit and you can dig as deep as you like in to it to find your tone. BEN uses it to great effect as mentioned. He can probably share some great patches to get you going. It's also available for IOS so you can even use your phone as your back up rig in a pinch smile.gif

I'll be glad to share anything I've got.

Is there any specific sound you're looking for? smile.gif

I was on the BIAS test team but when it was released all of our licenses were killed and I went back to Trusty overloud. On bias I know you can share patches to their cloud, can you also export patches as a file and start a thread with a patch and a audio demo (youtube for example) of the patch so folks can hear it before downloading? You've got some very nice tones and a BIAS preset thread could be really cool smile.gif

I'm not sure if you can actually do that, but I'll check it.

I upgraded to Bias Fx Pro yesterday, one of the first things I noticed on Tone Cloud was Todd Simpson comments everywhere biggrin.gif

I still love my Axe Fx and still use it live, but I'm really lazy and Bias Fx is just really handy.

Hopefully my dream of actually recording an EP will happen this year, I'm getting rid of more and more obstacles!

That's me! All over the place smile.gif I was a BIAS beta tester back when it came out! I was really irked at some presets sounding so boomy and not tight so I let folks know! But if I liked it I made sure to say why. I remember that at the time, not many folks were commenting so you had to try everything first without much info. sad.gif

For home studio work, it's hard to beat the flexibility and sheer tone that BIAS provides. All of their products are damn good imho. I've been preaching about the benefits of software guitar recording forever it seems. Record some bits and let us know how you like PRO!
You can always blend the axe fx tone with the BIAS tone for a really cool sound. smile.gif

GREAT TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR EP!!! Think of it as one song at a time, otherwise it can be overwhelming. Also, you have wads of folks here who would love nothing more than to guest solo on your EP including me!! So if you want to add some spice/texture/contrast by bringing in folks to play, I'd say go for it. It can really help to have other folks playing on tracks. It provides a great contrast to what you are playing and adds sonic variety smile.gif

You may have already worked it out by now but its called TONE CLOUD. It's one of the best features of the software imho. Folks from various genres (Periperhy/etc) submit presets on a regular basis and anyone can post a preset and comment. h

Just for reference here is a link about it. great way to synch your presets over several machines and share with others.

https://help.positivegrid.com/hc/en-us/arti...eset-Management

They have a new amp called the BIAS MINI which is a 300 watt power amp and runs the bias amp software in a very small footprit. Half a rack space, few pounds, tiny little thing that could fit in your gig bag or on your pedal board.

Anyone try this at NAMM?
