Epiphone Les Paul For Christmas

I got my first electric guitar for Christmas ....
Took some high res pics for your viewing pleasure
I also got a Line 6 15w amp.
The sound coming out of the amp doesnt seem to be quite right.
Any tips on getting a "clean" sound from this amp?
First I had to turn on the gate to clean up the noise.
Now it has this echoing under water sound on the clean setting.

I realize we already have an "In the style of" lesson for Muse, but I was hoping one of the more talented players would not mind
creating a lesson on Plug In Baby, more specifically the beginning riff used througout the song.
Let me know if an example is necessary.

Looking At Fender Strat And Epiphone Les Paul...

I've been researching and looking at Fender Strat's (American and non) and the Epiphone Les Paul's.
First, I'm curious how the quality of the American Fender Strat compares to the Strat made in Mexico?
Also, since this will be my first electric guitar, is one suggested over the other for a beginner?
I realize this decision will come down to which I like better, but I was hoping for some guidance from the more experienced guitar players here.
Any other info you have about either one would be much appreciated.

Hello,
I purchased a Yamaha accoustic guitar about a month ago and have pretty much spent all my time
playing tabs of songs I enjoy. I'm hoping to obtain a deeper understanding of playing the guitar as well
as acquire some skill playing it.
This appeared to be a quite active community so I signed up.

I enjoy all kinds of music, but my favorite bands are Tool, Muse and Radiohead.

I'm hoping this site has a much information as it appears to....
