I bet your thinking "hmmm..."
Either way we have a very cool http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Ricky-Martin-Style-AcousticSolo/ by Fernando today - and I wanted to check with you:
Who do you think has penetrated rock pop culture using Spanish influenced guitar the most?
La Bamba baby
Probably Carlos Santana and less directly, Al DiMeola
One thing btw though - I'd guesstimate that something like 90% of Spanish popular music played here on radio in Spain is never heard on English language radio in the UK and probably USA.
Spanish as in from Spain? or from spanish speaking countries?
I would say Santana (Mexico), also Paco de Lucia (Spain) has made a great impression in the guitar world, so that;s a pop culture influence
hmm. I don't know, but I sure like Rodrigo & Gabriela
Santana is the man that can be labeled as number one on this. He was the first to introduce latin style into rock mainstream on a global scale. I hope this is considered spanish guitar btw..
I'd have to agree on Al Dimeola, though it's been a while. You could call his work on classical guitar "flamenco" in spots, "classical" in others, and "spanish" almost in general.
Todd
My vote goes for Santana too, his phrasing is awesome and although he has certainly evolved from the classic spanish guitar those roots are clearly there.
I love Al Dimeola too, have seen him live a few times, and he totally rocks.
