Winding Roads by Marcus Lavendell
http://www.box.net/shared/iszoe2llia
I love all metallica solos, but solo in Harvester of Sorrow is so horrible(the song isn't), the worst solo i ever heard, kirk had to be completely stoned when writing that solo
i love metallica too thx to masterclass i finally played "fade to black"
This is a really hard question...but i would say:
Technical difficulties solo by racer x
The curse of the castle dragon solo by Paul Gilbert
Old love solo by eric clapton
learning to live solo by dream theater
and many other solos made by awesome bands (Maiden,Guns and roses, TOTO etc...)
anybody like bad horsie by steve vai? i cant find any good tabs and my versions a lil off
My all-time favorite would have to be the solo in Second Heartbeat by Avenged Sevenfold, its the reason I started practicing seriously. Some others would be Needled 24/7 and Sixpounder by Children of Bodom, Six by All that Remains, and Cry For Eternity by Dragonforce
Well its a hard question but the solo Lonely in the Night by Eric Johnson comes close to beeing branded favorite.
I really couldnt say what my my favourite solo was but Mikael Åkerfeldt is easily my favourite guitarist because Opeth rocks my world.
I think many of the solos that John Norum in Europe plays are awesome, but except from that i have three solos I think is better than all others:
Scary Kids Scary Kids - Losing My Religion
Metallica - Nothing Else Matters
Children Of Bodom - Downfall
Aqualung - Jethro Tull
Played by Martin Barre. Still sounds great after all these years. Would make a nice lesson.

Friedman:
Tornado of souls

Hangar 18

I'm with GuitarDude and AudunESP on this one, my favorite has to be Lavendell's solo in Winding Roads.
the solo from deep purple's child in time has gotta be right up there, the live version is awful but the studio version is epic.
eric clapton, the 24 nights live album, Old Love. you might be able to play his licks, but playing his licks and playing the way HE plays them is a different story. he has the best vibrato ever!!!
I think Stairway to heaven is up there but so is Calos Santanas Europa alot of guitarists to choose from one of my new faves is our very own Gabriel Leopardis maj pentatonic
I'm a huge death/thrash/speed/doom metal fan, but whenever this topic comes up anywhere, the first solo that comes to mind for me is:
Comfortably Numb(2nd solo) - David Gilmour(Pink Floyd).
Boris- Heavy Friends
Simplistic but psychadelically hypnotic.
I don´t have a favorite guitarist, but there are a few solos that I prefer over other not for their technical ability, mostly, but because they have a connection with me, linking me to a time or a place. A memory...

Octavarium (Dream Theatre)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDXUFwVRvQ8
Holly **** is the only way I can describe how Marcus' solo makes me feel. The nine second phrase starting at fifty seconds rips my heart out every time i listen to it. I love music that has something to say, and says it with a lot of feeling, and this one is all that and more. I just got a whole new reason to practice my ass off. I WANT TO PLAY LIKE THAT!!!!!!!!!
Boris
Btw, Marcus, If your reading this, I wanna have your babies. Oh wait, the whole guy/guy thing wont work, damn.

And a lot more..........and a lot from GMC.
Comfortably Numb
If there were no words to the song, and you just listened to the solo, you could tell from the emotion of David Gilmour's playing what he's trying to say. If you can do that, then you're an amazing musician in my book. I think he also proves that you don't need to play extremely fast to make a good solo, which is something I always admired about him.
Well, being an "old guy", I have to go back to the 1970s and say that ONE of my favorite solos is in "Built For Comfort" on the album "Phenomenon" by UFO. Another one is on the same album, the song "Oh My". If you're not familiar with it, you have GOT to listen to it.
That being said, Michael Schenker (his old stuff) is near the very, very top of my "Favorite Guitarist" list. His use of modes and almost dissonant phrasing seems to talk to a (guitar playing) listener.
For me this is no contest! Brian May's solo on We Will Rock You. It's just amazing! The pounding and screaming of the crowd then he unleashes that! Oh, AMAZING!
Eric Johnson - Cliffs of dover
Slash - God father theme
Slash- Dont cry
Carlos Santana- Europa
SRV-Lenny
Iron Maiden- Rainmaker
Joe satriani- Starry night
Joe satriani- Midnight
Metallica- Fade to black
Metallica- sanitarium
thats all i could think of, off the top of my head.

Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
Mr. Crowley - Ozzy
Eruption - Van Halen
Defintly one of mines is Altitudes by Jason Becker
Hmm hard to decide, but might be November Rain or Sweet Child o' Mine - Guns n' Roses.
I don't listen to guitar-players anymore since most of them bores me. (except myself ofc. I always find a new mistake for every recording I do)
I rather listens to singers, sax-players, keyboard-players etc. since they tends to play more melodical than guitar-players. Anyway, I do listen to some musicians playing guitar like Hendrix, Gary Moore, Pat Metheny amongst others. Favourite solo? That will be Georgia performed live by John Scofield in Copenhagen 1983.
//Staffay
It's hard to pick a favorite as there are tons of awesome solos, but one that people may overlook is the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8f4O-0BH8kc solo by Muse.
Skip to about 4 minutes and the songs turns from ballad to blowing your face off with an awesome whammy solo.
Matt Bellamy - a man who understands the power and fragility of a guitar solo.
Some interesting replies given the question and context, but as far as guitar solos go, my favorite solos are actually done by good guitarists and that pretty much means some degree of virtuosity is involved. I"m all for guys that play marimba too, but as for guitarists, I really appreciate Steve Vai (big shock I'm sure) and "For the Love of God" is really quite good. Emotive, Technical, listenable, just killer.
Canon Rock is my favorite solo. It was that song that inspired me to play guitar!
Freebird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
without doubs "Tornado of Souls Solo" and Also Altitudes from Jason Becker
The solo from Hotel California has always been a favorite of mine and just about any SRV solo.
Slash tears it up on Nightrain, those solos are killer. Tornado of Souls had an awesome solo too, I'd say that's my favorite
I'm mostly a metalhead and shred addict, but my favorite guitar solo is Nils Lofgren's solo part in Neil Young's 'Speaking Out', on the 'Tonight's the Night' album. That solo is absolute beauty.
Angels Don't Kill-Children of Bodom
Scream Aim Fire- BFMV
The Audience is Waiting- Steve Vai
Constant Motion-Dream Theater
Stairway to Heaven - I will smack you if you don't already know
Pull Me Under - Dream Theater
Changes every day lately. But this, at 2:20:
Among the usual candidates (comfortably numb, one, tender surrender and so on...) I've always loved this one:
There are very many good solos, but one that is worth listening to is Gary Moore's Empty Rooms and how he builds it up with acoustic guitar and bass.
