80s Hard Rock Lesson

Europe: 80s Hard Rock Lesson

Hey there - I am pleased to announce Gabriel and I have been discussing a more intermediate series, and this is the first lesson which covers 80's hard rock.

Luckily for us - Gab knows how to make simple things rock!

Looks tasty. I have a question though.

Is A pentatonic minor in Gabriel's lesson so different than the one from Kris' Beginner Scales lesson?

These are 2 different patterns to get the same scale ...

Youll notoce that Kris' is a subset of Gabriels box - they share the same notes, Gabrielk has put a few extra ones on, plus gabriel has highlighted the blue note which is often used with pentatonic scales to give you a 6 note scale.

Scales are not patterns, patterns are not scales - a pattern is really a realization on the fretboard of a musical entity called a scale. As such, there are very many ways to create patterns - the boxes that we all start with are one formulated way that makes learning easier, but eventually you outgrow boxes and start to look at the neck as a whole. It is possible to express scales as a diagram of the guitar nexk in which every possible note is shown - kind of like all of the boxes run together. When you have enough experience you will start to think in terms of a diagram like that for note selection and forget about boxes.

Ok. So really the boxes are just a more manageable way (meaning, not so many notes and within a 4-fret span) for a beginner to learn notes in a particular scale?
