Hmmm, well i think a good way to do it is listen to the track your going to be soloing over, and just imagine a solo playing along with it in youre head, if it sounds like it should be, then try to play it on guitar, another thing that you could do is just improvise, which is what i do for 90% of my solos, and when you improv, and i quote the great billy sheehan on this one "Don't Think Notes, Think Patterns" , i think its a great way to come up with licks.
One more, if youre song has a certain theme to it, like Egyptian kinda feel to it, then you can approach it with a thought process of like "Ok, i want this to have and Egyptian Vibe to it, so ill try messing around with these kinda licks" ect. ect. ect.
Somtimes the greatest riffs and solos are all accidents as well.
