thanks for your theory lessons, its overwelming, but still I try, anywho. I have this riff in G Lydian (A mixo I think). I am trying to come up with some interludes that will distincly change the feel of the song, sort of like same lead notes- different back round chords to change the mode. I just need some help on which chords work better with each mode. Thanks again

Hey

That's always a tricky thing to do, keep the same melody notes or sort of the same notes, but change the feel of the harmony.

What I like to do is go to another mode of that parent key. So, if you are in G Lydian, that mode comes from the D Major Scale.

Try to keep the notes the same, but move the chords into a minor mode from that key, like:


E Dorian - im-iim-bIII-IV-vm-vidim-bVII

or

B Aeolian - im-iidim-bIII-ivm-v-bVI-bVII

Sometimes just switching to a minor mode related to the key you're in is the easiest and best way to go about this sort of thing. Try it out and let us know how it goes.
