Hey guys!

I'm busy learning to figure out how to play songs on my own. I'm concetrating on chords for now, solos and stuff comes later. I want to ask you guys to name an easy song, can be power or normal chords. With easy I mean realy easy, bars not prefered (but ok as well) and like 4 chords repeated in parts of the song. Now to start out and learn, I'd also like if you could name the chords, but not in the right order. if a song is A C D A , then you could say D C and A.

Thnx GMC!

Kaz

Seriously give the song a listen to. You will be able to do it in no time. I believe the first chord is B5. That is a starter for free tongue.gif They are all power chords. Very simple style. I guarantee you can do it.

oddly enough, I find solos easier to transcribe than chord progressions. Of course it depends on the progressions. I mean, if you have a base and a riffing guitarist... finding the background chord can be extremely difficult, I mean not just if it's an A minor or C major etc. But finding the chord the musician had in mind when he/she wrote the piece...

Me too. Have been thinking a lot about that...

I think it's an experience thing that you start to pick up over time.

Solos are relatively easy because mostly they're single notes and as long as you can slow it down and are somewhat familiar with the fretboard, you'll find the notes eventually. There's only so many notes there that it could be.

Chords are harder because it's hard as a relatively new player to tell what the internal notes are. Finding the root is relatively easy in the same way solos are. One of the things my local guitar teacher has me doing with chords is going back and forth between major, minor, major 7th and minor 7th chords a lot. I'm starting to identify these chord types more by their 'flavor' rather than by trying to figure out a chord's internal notes. The more chords that I get familiar with, the more I can pick them out when I hear them. I'm not always going to know the fingering and the notes yet but I can look it up pretty easily.

About the maj, minor and seventh chords. I'm fine if I can't transcribe the exact chords, only the difference between major and minor is very big. For me if I found C Am and B and it was Csus4 Am7 and B, I"m fine to biggrin.gif
