Well, after another another speedpicking practice session, I was resting my fingers and started to think: "Am I practicing right?"

Heres how I practice:

20 minutes of Pavels Alternate Picking Lesson 1
20 minutes of Pavels Alternate Picking Lesson 2
20 minutes of Kristofers Fusion Solo Part 2 Intro (the first 2 vids)

I usually play likes this in the morning and in the evening so I get about 2 hours of alternate picking a day.

Now my question is: "Am I doing it right? Is this the "right" way of doing it? Is it effective?"

Should I maybe pick one lesson and play it for the 2 hours instead of 3 different lessons? Maybe it would be more effective? Share your thoughts.

There is no right way of practicing, there is the right way for YOU to practice.

so it really depends on you, practicing only one lesson can be super effective for some, but for others it will just get boring very quickly, so they need diversity, you decide which one you are smile.gif

Well, the thing is, Im practising 3 lessons at the same time because I dont want to get bored. But if I knew that practising 1 lesson would be more effective, I would just take a deep breath, watch a lot of awesome guitar videos (so I would have enough motivation biggrin.gif) and practice 1 lesson a time.

Hey Lithuanian smile.gif
I agree with the point Iluha made. I happen to also practice more than 1 lesson at a time. I usually focus on parts I need work on rather than the whole lesson. This process may not work for others but it works for me. The important thing is what is comfortable for you. As long as you are also working with a metronome or BT to guide your progress than I think you'll be fine biggrin.gif

Best of luck

I think if you devote all your time to 'one' you'll perfect that 'one' lesson quicker. I personally would stick to your current lesson plan because I think different alternate picking lessons spread around variety all with the same common goal. wink.gif

I also tend to work on many lessons at the time mostly becaus i get bored very quickly but i really think that you can benefit from learning several lesson at once because you learn to play different licks and not just one and that can really help.... It works for me

The way I see it, speedpicking is a very wide term. Those three lessons are certainly a good way to start developing. You must be prepared to develop a speedpicking through a longer periods of time using many lessons and workouts that you may find useful. in time you will see what is good for you and what not, as you check your progress along the way.

I see speedpicking as the result of guitar workout: stretching, synchronization, finger independence, dexterity, control.. smile.gif

QUOTE ("Steve Vai")
Start by playing something - a bend, a riff, a scale, a song - very slowly; if you make a mistake, start over; do this over and over, until you can play it flawlessly - and I do mean flawlessly - many times in a row. Next, gradually increase the tempo. Eventually you'll be flailing like a madman.

Yeah.. it's probably the most simple sounding but most complex to learn technique..

I assume you're trying to improve your AP technique - One word - METRONOME. Learn it, love it, make it your new best friend.

It is the ONLY way to make your chops accurate and in time.

Watch Kris's Metronome lesson all the way through.

You will see vast improvements if you correctly use it.
