I would love to download some backing tracks to burn on a cd to practise to. Is this possible?

I think it was also somewhat discussed about a member asking if he played it through his speakers and record it, was this method ok? I think Kris said yes but he is who you should message to make positive. Best of luck getting what you need I have been doing this with some of the backings here just to be able to record me playing -------------------- My Gear

That would be great and very useful... I asked Jerry Arcidiacono if he could send me the backing track of his Chuck Berry style lesson and he uploaded it here
It is great because now I can play that backing track in my home stereo and jam as if I had a bad in front of me. |

Well.. That's a tough one.. I guess you can do it. By installing a codec license in your media player. Sort of like how TDC (Tele Denmark Communications) handles their Play subscriber service: People are allowed to download and play music downloaded through Play, as long as the costumer is a Play subscriber, either directly or indirectly (via their broadband subscription). It would require GMC to record the stuff using the special GMC license codec. The only drawback is that the user is required to be online when checking the license.. Well. Just a thought. That would prevent users without the license from playing the media. You don't need to be online at all times, as the license check could be periodically. I think. This is very cool , but it doesn't allow users to play it on their ipods or home stereo...And having the need of internet connection , well than you could just stream the backing from gmc... IMO best way to go is to ask individual instructors for particular backings and I'm sure they will upload them for you.. You say that you could play back those licenced backings on a mp3 player , ipod and such??? That is very interesting than..And subscription system is cool definitly and prevents piracy...
p.s. just read Tony's post , it seems that its not that safe system at all This post has been edited by Bogdan Radovic: Jul 8 2008, 11:37 PM -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

The use of a codec or a DRM encode is something that is nice idea and has been discussed. Sadly it isn't particularly difficult to side step any DRM coding. A backing track with no DRM (or the DRM stripped) then would be very easily opened up to mass sharing. Regardless of the issues with DRM protection (or lack of) Kris is, I believe, looking at possible ways how backing tracks could be made available widely. Until it is resolved then Bogdan's suggestion of asking the Instructor sounds like a good one to me.

Cracking a DRM protection is more involved than simply streaming off a webpage. ... Totally agree with you jacmoe but it is still doable and not difficult if you know how - often only using legitimate freely available software. One of the interesting issues with DRM is that some individuals will see it as a challenge to strip out and make the original source available with no DRM protection. The issue - at least as I see it - is how Kris/GMC and the Instructors are able to protect their IPR and DRM or a codec will not, imo, do that sufficiently well. So like you say, until Kris resolves this Bogdan's method for the win . Cheers, Tony -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer.
